I remembering seeing somewhere a King BB can be used in a 83mm BB by just removing the plastic spacer. Is this correct and how do people like the King BB for DH use?

yep, just remove the plastic sleeve. been working great for me. ZERO issues on several DH/DS bikes
Are you using any spacers? Drive or non-drive side?
on the M9 and Transition Bank i have them on now, i think it was just 1 spacer on drive side and non on the non-drive.

that doesnt work with MRP cranks
truth, but i have always found, that the reccomended/ optimum set up isnt always the same (in my expirience)

Agreed. But if you use more or less than that with Shimano/RF cranks your cranks will bind or you will have play. Flipping sides is fair play though.
