To install a King headset, wil I need anything other than a standard headset press? Does it install just like a Pig DH or Cane Creek C4? I heard or read somewhere that you need a special press, just wanted to make sure before I empty my wallet...
It's not a special press (you can still use your park or homemade), but rather a set of special adaptors used to press in the King without damaging the bearings. The adaptors cost about $50, and have been the reason I just go to the shop for this task.
I have installed everyone I have ever owned with a standard park headset press. Just make sure you use the press itself and not the extra stepped pieces that come with it.
I used a vice, 2 small squares of plywood, and a 2x4 with a 1-1/8 hole drilled through it as a crown race setter. Ghetto yes, but I've done it the correct way enough times to know what I'm doing. You just need to be sure that you are pushing down on the edge of the cup and not eh bearing.
