anyone know off-hand how much this costs?

also, i thought i was able to fix my alloy body, but no dice when trying to get a King cog on. i used a flat-head screw driver to try and smooth out the shell. any other ideas?

lastly, does anyone using the Fun Bolts with a derailleur? any issues?

No idea on what a replacement steel body will cost. But based on just the upgrade cost on a new hub at EP it ain't gonna be so cheap. Then again, the CS is top notch so they might help you out, good guys that they are. Try calling them or have your shop do it?

But as for funbolts, every DH and FR guy running them uses a derailleur. I have them and have no problems. Don't have to remove the driveside one to clear the derailleur. My ex bolt-on RRR hub required me to do that and it was a pain. King is nice. :)

the more i thought about the fun bolt question, the more i realized it shouldn't be a problem.

--edit--

hm, i've seen posts with prices varying between 160$ to 35$. Speedgoat shows the aluminum driveshell being 75$.

I looked into the same thing a while back and for some reason I remember a price of $85 not including the fun-bolts themselves.

Use a smooth cut file to take off the high spots. You might need a jewelers file to clean up between the splines.
This happens on all aluminum freehub bodies

where the trails are
I built up a new wheel and went the heavy-duty route. I'm afraid I don't remember the difference in cost for the steel shell, axle and funbolts vs. a standard setup.
(wow, that was helpful huh?)

No prob with the fun bolts and a deraileur.

I don't remeber the price for the SS drive shell either. King is usually behind in production on these so they are not always available. Give them a call, you can order one (or any other parts) from them directly.

Last time I called and ordered parts...

Alu Hub shell stripped $35
Alu Hub shell complete (with bearings already installed) $90
Steel Hub shell stripped $67
Steel Hub shell complete $125
Bolt on Axle $80
Fun bolts $35

All prices are enduser not shop/ep.

Bolt on Axle with fun bolts and steel drive shell is my current set up. Works fine.

Yo. If you pick up an XT or XTR cassete you won't have as much chewing on the body other than the last three cogs, as all the others sit on a one-piece carrier. Of course, if you already have one and those three high gears are chewing up your body then I suppose my reply is in vain.

the chewing was caused by my using of a plain bmx cog, and trying to learn trials. i knew it was a bad idea, but King cogs were nowhere to be found, so....the rest is history.
