I use emule (www.emule-project.com) and I use Peerguardian (http://www.methlabs.org/methlabs.htm) to block all the nasty MPAA and etc. companies. Whenever I use Peerguardian I never get any letters or anything but one time I forgot to run it and 24 hours later, guess what? A letter in my email :p . So lesson to learn, always use Peerguardian or Protowall (http://www.bluetack.co.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=2) when using P2P applications. So far this has worked great and emule has every file I have been looking for. :sneaky:

haven't used 'em but i hear good things about soulseek, and easytree (using BT). in fact, i just got some great bootlegs from a guy, who got it off easytree. one is a live show of robyn hitchcock covering the entire white album. excellent sound quality too. i might have to look into this.

Just so you know, peer guardian et al don't do a damn thing. All they do is block KNOWN ip addresses from getting onto your torrent etc. Guess what? the MPAA and RIAA aren't as stupid as you think, in fact they are employing some of the most qualified people in the IT domain to shut down file sharing.

Also as for whoever made the bittorrent DMCA notice thing..Get a grip. Don't use ridiculous public trackers and you are fine.

And for the other insane BT poster - you cannot "shut down" bit torrent. There is nothing central to shut down. Period. One tracker voluntarily shut down, and 10 more will spring up in its place...usually run by the same people.

I'm paranoid, and judging from the tone of posts here they will be using public trackers. Ah well, I've been with usenet and I will stay there.

I work in the 'field' too.

Usenet is indeed the place to be, followed closely by IRC, but even it isn't exactly clear now.

I tend to agree with you, chances are these guys will not be on private trackers and they also will not be on usenet. The only thing the RIAA/MPAA have done is slow down the "casual" grandmother or soccer mom from downloading new bing crosby and yanni tunes.

Those who want it bad enough, or who are semi computer literate will always have an easy way to get it withought worries.

In my mind, there are 2 ways to stay safe 1- Live in Canada (yeah me) or 2- Use bittorrent on private trackers, Usenet or private IRC / FTP servers like the distribution groups and courriers use.

I just feel really bad for the people who think they are protecting themselves with things like peer guardian. All they are doing is clogging up their network traffic and wasting cycles.

Edit: and before anyone asks - I have nothing to do with the distro or courrier groups, so no, I cannot help you get free stuff. k thanx.
