i'm looking for dj/street style but with not a lot of pading. more of a thin hard shell. i'm not using them for riding (firefighter training instead) but i want to stick with a bike brand just to keep the biker in me alive while i do other stuff. i looked at the 661 dj/knee any others that might work?

Do they have to have an exposed hard shell? If not, the Shadow Conspiracy (UGP) knee pads I have are the best light pads I've ever tried. They have a hard shell but they are completely covered by a really heavy material. I hardly ever use my Pro Designed any more...
