I want to get into cyclocross this winter but I am not sure I want to drop more coin into another bike. I have a Kona Dr. Dew that I use for commuting.

Its got a flat bar, and disc stoppers, but it is a 700c bike, so it ought to work, right?

What do I need to know before trying to get into this?

should work just get cx tyres. drop bars do make it a little easier. imo cx is really boring and i would rather stick to the road. if the ground is clear enough for cx ide rather ride xc. just my 2 cents.

You either haven't raced or have really crappy races.....of all the events I've raced, and the only thing I haven't raced is track, CX is by far the most fun. IMO its even more fun than DH

<edit> Your bike should do fine at a CX race

Give it a shot, you will be fine with that bike. If you really like it you can get a full on cx bike later. :)

Oh yeah, you might need to take off any bar ends you have, and get some narrow knobby tires.

Disc Brakes are not legal in UCI races, but most races allow them for the lower classes.
