Hey, im just getting into urban freeride and dirt jumping and im breaking the **** out of my crappy shogun bike and i was wondering, out of the kona shred or the giant stp-2, which would you say is a better bike. Im not really sure because the giant seems to have some better components but is the dirt jam fork on the kona better than the exr-comp on the giant?
cheers...

The p.2 Is made by specialized, and its a great first freeride bike. I would really suggest looking for a used bike because you can often get a bike in good condition with better parts for the same price or even cheaper than what you would pay for an inferior bike new. I think that almost everyone would agree that the forks on the bikes you mentioned and most entry level freeride bikes leave something to be desired and are often the first thing to be upgraded.

maybe you mean the Giant STP-2. That's a pretty good bike, but needs some work to make it a great bike. ie:needs disk brakes and front fork.

Yeah, i did mean the giant stp-2. Yeah, the specialised p-2 is a nice looking bike but i just dont think my parents will want to fork out that kind of money and i dont have a job... So i think the kona shred will have to do, the forks look ok, and even if i do break em, they are warranteed for dirt jumping to i should just be able to get new ones... yeah, this is the kona shred im looking at http://www.vicmtb.com.au/store/05bikes/kona/shred/index.php
Its an 05 model so it has the discs and my friend has the same discs on his bike and i find they have plenty of stopping power and the hussafelt cranks shouldl be awesome as... So yeah, my main question now is, which is more likely to break quickly, the exr fork on the giant stp-2 or the dirt jam on the kona shred.... being used for smallish dirt jumping and progressively larger drops in urban...

those are both good bikes for the money, and the "Dirt Jam" fork is not an actual Dirt Jumper fork, so I think, I don't know, but they would have very similar perfomance, the Shred does come with disc brakes, but I have a kona stuff and the geometry doesn't work too well for street but great for dirt jumping, and if your only going to do street and dirt jumping, I think disc brakes are unneccesary, and from my expierence with those disc brakes, they are very hard to adjust and don't work great, I like the giant better but thats just me
