Hey everyone, I just picked up a new 03 kona 19 " stinky dee-lux complete bike for a pretty good deal. Has anyone else had one of these, and what's it been like? anything should I keep my eye on? I already know about the rocker plate hitting the seat clamp, but any other problems?

Zane, our shops here at Snowshoe Mountain (WV) used the Stinky and Stinky dee lux's last year for our rental fleet. Of the 25 or so bikes we had, there were no problems other than the typical parts wearing out and needing replaced. I was never really into the Kona line-up, but after seeing what beginner and novice guests could dish out to a bike (literally destroying various parts), I am now sold on Kona. The frame is capable of just about anything you can throw at it and if built right can be a very versitale bike overall.

The only problems I have noticed with the stinky line is the routing of the rear brake hydro hose. Make sure you don't have the hose routed through the last hose mount location on the seat stay just before the caliper, as it will create a kink in the hose in no time as the suspension cycles through it's travel.

A few of my friends/co-workers picked up used/demo'ed stinky dee's after last summer from the shop and had nothing but good things to say about them. I went ahead and placed an order on a stinky just recently, in an effort to build up my ideal burly trailbike/light freeride bike. Overall, I think they are great bikes for anyone that just wants a bike they can beat on and not worry about.

the stinky line of bikes is awesome for just about everything. not too super heavy to trail ride, burly enough for DH. I owned a 5inch stinky and now i have a 6" one, awesome bikes. enjoy it

Did you work at the summit shop last year? I helped out there for a few weeks when Tom ran the place. The Kona's are smooth, I've ridden a few around here and they can take anything, just ask the Kona clump, and the guy off the chocolate milk commercial.

he was riding a kona, wasn't he? he ate it pretty hard, good thing he had armor on.

keep ur eye on the top shock bolt. i snapped a couple and one time it bent the linkage plate. havent had a problem since i got the upgrade bolt (comes standard on all the bikes now), but i am always freaked out about it breaking again

yes and no, The older bikes had much wider spacing on the top shock mount. So after realizing that the bolts broke, Kona made a stainless sleeve and stronger bolt. The newer models have much narrower spacing and are much stronger than even the stainless upgrade, but I still bent the bolt, at least it didn't break.

Nope, didn't work at the shop, rather I worked for the Events Dept at the time. I now work for Marketing. Tom was always asking me questions about dh stuff, like suspension setup and working on Profiles. You might have seen me around, riding either a Giant dh team w/ monster t or a planet x bomer set-up for street/dj'ing.
