NORCAL is the hizzle
Well, to an extent it's all speech and words, but the point is that some words are way more loaded than others, and the context is key. Using this word, in this way, exposes a core belief that black people are somehow less than human, that purely by virture of being black they are worthless. I mean, all he keeps saying is "He's a ******!" as if nothing more neeeds to be said.

It also exposes a performer with no sense of where he is or control over what he's saying. Heckling is part of the stand-up tradition, and whether your a pro or a washed-up TV actor, you need to deal with it - most do it in a way that is funny. This wasn't, and wasn't meant to be.

I don't care if he rides bikes.

There should be a new movie starring Mel Gibson and Mr. Richards - "When White People Attack".

That's some shiznit...didn't believe his tirade was that nuts until I saw the video. Nothing funny or acceptable about that scene. Little ol' white boy me was offended and disgusted at his outburst, I would have gotten up and left too. Good luck finding work for the next couple years. Bet he wished he had that 5 minutes of his life back to do over again!

this is such crap.

just because he's white.

carlos mencia, dave chappel(tell me he's not a racist bastard) and other comics of color say stuff just like this in every act they perform and on t.v. with the words just barely bleeped.

the thin skinning of this country is sickening.

like some one else on the radio says all the time,
"we are becoming the united states of the offened."

the hecklers had it coming.

It's liberating to tell the world you're a racist, isn't it dhbuilder?

Yes, damn those hecklers. Insulting them by using THE most derogatory word known to and created by white men to insult, demean, disrespect, and denegrate the very same people they once enslaved for 400 years because they were once thought of as sub-human...

dhbuilder if you don't understand why Mencia and Chappelle can get away with it and "Kramer" can't, you haven't been paying attention during history or ethics class.

EDIT: Now that we've got Kramer AND Mel Gibson "going around the bend" someone should start a pool on who will be the next white actor to go loco.

Compile this footage and sell it under the title: "Crackers Gone Wild"

I say the un-aired dash-cam footage of a drunk Mel Gibson yelling epithets at the highway patrolmen is the new "Zapruder Film" of our time...

Also - you notice how Kramer and Mel used the same flimsy strategy to make an excuse for their hatespeech? Mel said he was "stressed out" over the wars going on in the middle east, and Kramer said he was "concerned" over race relations after hurricane Katrina in and around La....

Why can't these people just say: "Look, I grew up in a racist household, and I've been able to manage my racist viewpoint in public up until I went completely sideways the other day..." Is that so hard???

The plight of the white man is so often overlooked. I too feel my victimhood deserves recognition.

i think everyone understands why they can, but i also get tired of people acting so shocked when the same minority thats being offended persists in using the offensive language.

Maybe Orwell was onto something....

Out of my mind, back in a moment.
So these guys were heckling him, specifically calling him "not funny." That really is the worst thing you can tell a comedian; it really is the A-Bomb to them.

I think Richards was just trying to hit them as hard and as bad as they got him. Although it was a complete melt down, that is probably one of the greatest things to see at a comedy show. There's a point where it's so wrong and so offensive that you can do nothing BUT laugh.

Just my $.02.

no ****, thanks for the clarification. Did you even try to get my point or are your eyes still burning?
Yah but your point is nitpicky. When was the last time you went to a black establishment and was refused service for your race.

And does your nitpicky point apply to all African-Americans? Or just the one's you see on television.

Does it apply at all to this particular situation.

Nope.

U teh lo$er....

Save the victim stance for not being able to use the word, and save it for when you go to an African American restaurant and get refused service because of your race.

if your that type of loud potty-mouthed comedian you could get away with it, like Andrew Dice Clay would make it part of the set somehow and relate them to vaginas...

or maybe Bobcat cause no one would understand what he's saying?
Good point. I have to say I've honestly never heard Richard's standup routine, so I don't know much about it. It's just that "not funny" seems to really be the gut-shot for comedians...

Yep. Leave it up to some high caliber stress to get people to say what they *really* think.

I personally think it's good that he blew up like that. At least now we *know* he's a grade-A racist.

what the hell does that have anything to do with what i said? i'm not defending Kramer, i'm pointing out no one should be surprised that the n-bomb is still thrown around when it's being consistently reinforced in the media, context or not (in fact, the so called 'acceptable' context version can be way more insidious).

I'll leave the Orwell reference for you guys to figure out....

so you're saying that because people are too dumb to distinguish between the acceptable and unacceptable uses that such words should be universally banned?

If your point is that black people use the word themselves, sure that's a problem but that's not what this is about. I mean, yeah it's tiring and lame to see it thrown around in pop culture, and yeah some black people can seem hypocritical about the subject. Doesn't matter. I don't like it either, nor do many people. So? Both are wrong.

There were dozens of ways to handle those hecklers. Richard's use of the word was not about sociological debate on language and race in America - which I admit is an interesting topic. It wasn't good-natured insulting for sport, where both sides are in on the joke. It wasn't an attempt to spur dialogue in any way. No, it was just an out of control clown looking for the most hurtful and damaging thing to say because his washed-up ass couldn't take the heat.

one of the base premises of 1984 was the mere existing of words would perpetuate behavior, meaning, emotion etc.; i.e. without words to describe racism, racism could not exist. Of course this premise (as it did in the book) would rely also on brainwashing uh i mean cultural conditioning in order to completly erase the notion of race in the first place.

I guess i'm a bit off on a tangeant maybe, but the point is context only differentiates between hard-core racism and racism-lite, both further perpetuate negative culture to some degree but its so PC to let it ride and not point out the inconsistancies...

Interesting. I was under the impression that in some situations the use of such words did *not* imply any sort of racism.

Kramer's was definitely not one of those situations.

We're for *sure* going to get this thread moved to the Pol Forum. :happydance:

TN is really not so bad. Well, not where I live anyway. I find people in Chicago tend to be much for vocal with their racism anyway. At least in the south they hide it, and wear hoods when they wish to express it.
