there's a government that is scared of its people.
Man Greek politicians are soo different compared to their Swedish counterparts. Look at this:

Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos promised there would be a thorough investigation into the teenager's death and pledged to punish anyone found responsible.

"It is inconceivable for there not to be punishment when a person loses their life, particularly when it is a child," Pavlopoulos said. "The taking of life is something that is not excusable in a democracy."

He and Deputy Minister Panagiotis Chinofotis submitted their resignations, which were not accepted by the prime minister.
That is two actions that never happened after the Gothenburg 2001 scandal, during a summit, where a guy was shot and the police soo evidently has manipulated evidence and footage to deciet the population.

Police said the Saturday night riots left 24 policemen injured, with one remaining hospitalized Sunday morning. Rioters damaged or burned 31 stores, nine bank branches and 25 cars, including six police cars, police said in a statement.
That's another thing that never would happen here..

The riots continue for the third day in at least 4 cities.

A similar shooting incident in 1985 led to a lengthy vendetta between the youths and police, with violence continuing for years.
Looks like they will hold on until the Canadian Governor General banishes the right wing government..

Quite a good anaysis on why Greek citizens are prone to rebell. One of a few good explanations that he gives is "the culture of NO":
"Oxi" day commemorates 28 October 1940, when Greek leader Ioannis Metaxas used that single word to reply to Mussolini's ultimatum to allow Italy to invade Greece, propelling his nation into World War II.

When Greeks say no, they mean it in spades.
The Italians were chased long into Albania by poor peasants without shoes, armed with old hunting rifles at best.

Impressions from a Turkish (!) journalist on why "Greeks understand protest like few others", and thus don't object to the riots going on.

That’s probably why the middle-aged woman sitting next to me in the posh café in on the outskirts of Kolonaki, the Nişantaşı of Athens, casually reached into her Louis Vuitton bag during Wednesday’s general strike (planned long before the shooting of the boy that set off the riots) and pulled out a white surgical mask and continued casually talking on her mobile before exiting the door and walking in the direction of the riots.
