Forget Magic vs. Bird, these teams hated each other when it was Baylor/West vs. Russell/Havilchek. The series should be awesome with the Lakers prevailing (imo) due to no one having the ability to shut Kobe down. Though he's not my guy, Kobe is a force. He took Bruce Bowen apart in the San Antonio series which is saying something given that Bowen is a defensive specialist. Ray Allen has to play a whole lot better than he did at the beginning of the Detroit series and the Laker's bench/role players have to stay involved. The Laker team defense is damn impressive. Scary to think what they'd be like w/Bynum playing in the finals. Enjoy the hoops folks. Lakers in 6?

I loved the old series, but I loved both teams then, too. I hate Phil Jackson and can't wait to see them lose in 6 games.

I was a huge James Worthy fan back in the 80s given our shared Tar Heel Carolina blue blood and I lived in a house w/an avid Celtic die-hard. Had great fun watching all those finals talking smack to each other. I reluctantly came to appreciate Larry Bird somehow. If you think today's Lakers have forgotten the Kurt Rambis take down think again! This is war!

After watching the Celtics/Pistons series, I don't think the Lakers have a chance. Kobe is good, but it's still too much Kobe. If he is held just a little, it will be enough to eek out wins.

Red Auerbach hated Jackson, too. :D

when i was in high school, the Celts were in the finals all the time (and winning). this is like a renaissance. hopefully it's a good series. paul pierce is an impressive basketball player. he's not an amazing physically gifted athlete, but (like Bird), he knows the game and can get the job done.

I would bet my credits (that have since been reclaimed it appears) that Celtics take it in 6. KG came to Boston for 1 reason, and that is a ring. 'Aint nobody gonna deny him that!

You gotta like KG, Pierce, and Ray Allen as a fan of the game (I just happen to hate the Celtics- hell, that candy-ass Danny Ainge played for them, need I say more?). I'd love to see KG get a ring but it was what emerged in the Detroit series as well as the Atlanta series that tells me they peaked too soon this past NBA season. Had the finals been played in January when they were the best team in the league then I could see Red lighting up the celestial stogie. However, this is June and the Celts have looked worn out for vast stretches during the playoffs. On the Kobe side of things I just don't respect his basketball IQ. He makes shots that nobody else makes but he also attempts (too many) shots in ridiculous situations. He often goes 1 on 4 (still) and forgets about his team mates until there's only 5-6 seconds on the 24 second clock (tho he is doing that less this season). The guys on the Lakers I like are Fischer (a virtual MENSA Society basketball savant relative to Kobe) and Gasol. And all those pesky euro guys they have on the bench can flat out play defense (just ask Ginobli) and can hit 3s. So what that Kobe has brow beat them into their roles... they play those roles perfectly. As for Phil Jackson, I liked him better when he was a hippie playing for the Knicks in the 70s. As a coach he's been blessed with talent his entire career. I don't see him with multi-championships had he coached in Clipper land his entire career. Then again Auerbach had Russell and Cousy all those years (OMG... Cousy, I'm dating myself here, yikes).

This series is going to be crazy. I think that the Lakers fans are delusional for thinking that Kobe is going to run wild against the Celts. Kobe is one of the best players ever in my mind, and he will score his points, but he's not going to be putting up 40 every night. The celts defense contained LeBron and they will slow down Kobe too. If Ray Allen and Rondo can get it done, and Eddie House and Perkins can come in strong off the bench then the Lakers are going to have their hands full.

Celts in 6!

Celtic Pride Baby!

I am only a casual NBA fan but I'm looking forward to this series. I'd like to see the Celtics take it but I think the Lakers will (six games).

The NBA in HD is pretty sweet...I wasn't expecting to be so impressed when I first got the HD hookup.

All the Boston fans make me laugh. You guys almost lost to the Hawks. Lakers in 6, take it to the bank.

Not a huge BBall fan, but I'll watch these games. The NBA must be stoked! Sport watching starts tomorrow at 6:05 for the early Sox game and continues at 9 for the Celtics.

Did you hear Tommy Heinson say at the very end of that tape, "that's part of the game"? Spoken like a true Celtic. Now if it was Bird who had just been hit in the chops I'm sure Heinson would have been demanding an immediate expulsion from the game for the offending Laker. BTW, did anyone else notice the rebound Kareem got to initiate that sequence? Didn't see nearly as many as those in the big fella's career as we should have (he's actually a better writer than he was a rebounder... I read this WW2 book about this all-black tank battalion he wrote about a couple of years ago, a decent read). Some of the shots that Lebron James received in the Washington series make the Rambis hit seem tame in comparison.

Hey if anyone is going to go to the trouble of posting You Tube videos in this thread, what about some footage of the Laker Girls :brows:

Damn... just remembered that my satellite service doesn't get ABC (and the game isn't being shown on my wife's home improvement channel oddly enough). I'll have to wait to tape the game from ESPN which is re-broadcasting it at mid nite. Following it on the web just ain't the same (sounds like a tight game w/both Kobe and Pierce heating it up in the 3rd quarter. KG seems like he's owning the Lakers so far w/20 pts.). What's with this thread being relegated to the 2nd page... frickin cyclists!

Game 2 is always the key. I always expect the home team to win the 1st game. If the Lakers can come back and get the split they'll be in great shape for the shift to LA. This series is gonna be 2-3-2 right? I think 2-2-1-1-1 is a more equitable way to trade home courts. With the 2-3-2 homecourt plan it puts undue pressure on the series home court advantage holder to maintain serve for the 1st 2 games. For some reason they go w/the former in the finals.

i'll be the first to admit that the lakers are playing some sh!ty defense...but this is possibly the worst referring i've ever seen in an nba game much less and nba finals game...the refs ruined this game

They blew a 24 point lead so Kobe wouldn't cry on national tv. Other than that the Celtics looked damn good, baby!
no, they blew a 24 point lead because they're not as good as everyone thinks they are, Phil jackson finally put kobe on that faker pierce, and the refs finally stopped making retarded calls

and when has kobe ever cried on t.v. ...he might complain about refs or something like that...but when he plays a bad game he admits it

if they aren't as good as everyone thinks they are then i don't think they would have had a 24 point lead on the lakers in the first place...

my guess is the lakers will win game 3 or 4, but if the celtics keep playing like they have been then they will end up taking the championship.
