Lance Armstrong and the foreign politics of the US

Last Saturday I was at the opening race of the Tour de France.
When Lance Armstrong started, a lot of people started to shout "boo" and shouted other very anti-American slogans.
Well I'm not a road cycling fan, but I like L. Armstrong and his attitude, when I asked the guy next to me (from Spain) : why the hell are you booing at Lance ?
He said "this is my message to the Americans, let them know that we don't like their foreign politics".
Even a grandmother (from England) with a grandchild on her arm was shouting...

I'm absolutely ANTI-bush, but I'm never going to shout at a (sports)man for being an American, but this Anti-American attitude is getting worse by the day. (most of you probably couldn't care less but….)

Do you care what non-Americans think of you and the US?

Yup, stupid way of showing something that has nothing to do with Lance and cycling.

Perhaps you should wedgie the guy booing, to show your disapproval of his methods of disapproval.

no.

I could care less. Foreigners are irrelevant. Cliches are punny. I'm in agreeance with those above and blow me.

They are hatin' cuz they are typical "wanna USA be's"...

That and they know Lance has whooped ass the last 5 TdF's and he didn't come to France this year to come in #2.

No. you could NOT care less. To say that you "could care less" means that you are able to care less than already do... which means that you actually CARE about what others think of you....which I'm pretty sure is the exact opposite of what you were attempting to convey.

And agreeance isn't a word.

This post is just a disaster in both structure AND content.

You get a great big "F".

I'm all in favor of those Anti-Americans booing Lance. If they knew anything, they'd know that the booing and negative comments only motivate him to ride harder and harder. Keep him pissed, I say! He'll be harder to beat. :)

How ironic that a Spaniard would say such a thing on the heels of them being duped into voting the way some gaggle of terrorist nuts chooses. Talk about tucking your national package between your legs and sitting on it in the corner w/dunce cap installed! :mumble:

Not to burst ya bubble here but the idea that Spain voted in their new government because of the terrorist attacks was pretty much disproven on this forum recently. Try and keep up old fella ;) :D

Somebody should send the link to Reuters and AP. I bet we've solved a lot of what ails the world here on the monkey. ;)

I was wrong (apparently) :(

I really and honestly remember reading various sources *before* the election that said the new admin was in the lead and that the terrorist attack made no sense.

But after someone (DRB?) posted that wasn't the case, I went a googling and simply couldn't find a single source that I honestly thought I read some months back.

Everything I read said the old admin was in the lead and that the terrorist attacks did indeed sway the election

Which is of serious concern to me personally cuz I'm now wondering if I'm really losing my mind and generally cuz it's a shame that entire country gave in to the terrorists... which only fuels 'em.

And I'm gonna disagree a little with IAB... I'm not sure I want Lance to crush the field, which is what the booing would do. I think him needing to perform on the last day would be more interesting instead of him just coasting to victory :D

What sucks about the anti American attitudes is that I think that Americans get a bad rap when they go to other countries... Its not like there is a godamn thing we can do about Bush's policies.

Personally I am going to do the one thing that I have the power to do and that is vote against him... the thing is, last time I voted (along with the majority of the US) against him, but he still won

I think people forget their manners a lot of the time, but I suspect a lot them didn't have any to start with. I'm no fan of Bush or American policy but I wouldn't dream of giving any Americans I meet a hard time because of it...it's just plain rude.

Here's something to think about...

The rest of the world, when they need something, the first place they come to is the US to ask us for help. Yeah, go ahead and hate us now, but later you'll need us. Go ahead and boo Lance Armstrong. Your only going to make him even tougher to beat than he already is.

My guess would be that Lance is like the Yankees, he is very successful and overexposed and certain people will hate him for it. The politics thing just sounded like an excuse, did the people booing Lance also boo Tyler, Levi, Hincappi and Julich?

Didn't the French boo the Williams sisters last year, also saying they looked like monkeys?

First we take over cycling, and next...SOCCER!!!!!
