drum roll please.

NONE OF THE ABOVE

Yes boys and girls (though not many girls venture into these parts) the leading candidate is none of the above.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/07/17/presidential.poll.none.ap/index.html

The latest Associated Press-Ipsos poll found that nearly a quarter of Republicans are unwilling to back top-tier hopefuls Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, John McCain or Mitt Romney, ....
A hefty 23 percent can't or won't say which candidate they would back, a jump from the 14 percent who took a pass in June.
Following close behind none of the above is Giuliani at 21%, Thompson at 19% (who hasn't even entered the race) and McCain at 15%.

If the republicans want even a glimmer of hope at winning they need a candidate that appeals to all the moderates and as many liberals as possible. The only candidate that fills those shoes is Ron Paul. Funny thing is he's the most conservative one of them all and doesn't have a chance in hell of getting the nod.

Speaking of girls in these parts. What happened to Mudgrl.

I'm guessing DRB's personal attacks on OMGF caused him to go over the edge and her head now sits in his freezer.

What can Republicans do to gain the vote of the younger demographic? What is it, age 18-2x? I don't see how the Repubs could gain that vote, via mod and left policy as suggested, and hold on to the support of the Christian evangelicals.

Ron Paul with Condoleeza would have a slight chance over the Hillary and Obama or Edwards ticket that's basically a lock.
I've got a better chance of getting the GOP nomination then Ron Paul. And I'd get my ass kicked by ham sandwich.

Ron Paul will NOT appeal to liberals or moderates. Pro-guns, pro-life, small government, no taxes, probably kill immigrants at the border if he told the truth..... So if anything he is the candidate that the conservatives are looking for BUT sends the moderates and "liberals" running.

Do some research then. His appeal lies heavily with youth and liberals.
I'm the definition of a moderate. I'm a gun-weilding, pro-choice, conservative economic plan, social security-privatizing, no welfare, shoot aliens on site, anti-war, pot-smoking hippie and I love the guy. He makes sense and he stands be his word.

Bush does coke. Doesn't make him a moderate either.

You have no idea what you are. Your description of yourself as a moderate makes as much sense as a black man joining the KKK.

You're a libertarian. Look it up. (Paul is pro-life, btw.)

That's how I voted last time and look what it got me.

I still think the GOP will find someone to label as "the right guy for the yob" and the sheeple will flock. I fear the Dem's haven't done enough with the power they have to covert enough people.

Am I a Ron Paul frother? Maybe so. I say we surrender to Al Qaeda and GTFO of Iraq. Maybe if our soldiers weren't there, they wouldn't be getting maimed and killed so much. They certainly aren't protecting my interests over there.

What is wrong with you folks to say ANYONE doesn't stand a chance? Sure, with all the mass media support, the odds are slanted towards the top-tier but it all comes down to the vote and yours counts. There is only so much cheating that they can do.

It sickens me to think that the mass media gets to say "these are the top-tier candidates," and we just accept it. Especially when the polls say, "we don't really like any of your top-tier candidates."

:bonk: <===== This is the mass media beating the top-tier into the consciousness of America™

Come on he wants to be a moderate let him be a moderate.

I think Tom Coburn might be is his man.

Border Patrol agents should be allowed to shoot at fleeing drug traffickers, a Republican senator suggested Tuesday.

Johnny Sutton, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas, testifies about Border Control agents.

The patrol's deadly force rules were questioned at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing concerning the conviction of two agents who shot a fleeing, unarmed drug trafficker and covered it up.

"Why is it wrong to shoot the [trafficker] after he's been told to stop?" asked Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Oklahoma.
Of course the US Attorney responded with a completely stupid answer:

Johnny Sutton, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas, said the Supreme Court has ruled that using deadly force in that way is illegal. Agents also may not know if the fleeing person is a trafficker, he said.
"Border Patrol agents are American heroes. They arrest 1 million people a year. Somehow they are able to do that without shooting people in the back," he said.
Though Sutton is probably one of the ones they wanted fired.

That's the dumbest thing I can remember you posting here.

did you know that individuals who contribute $100 or less are the best way to bankrupt a campaign? direct mailing, phone banks for follow up, over-inflated numbers of "contributors" (i.e., source of hemorrhage), etc.

keep up teh good work!

Just think...

if every Fcktarded Tool in America™ tossed $5 Ron's way, he would have over $1,250,000,000 in campaign funds.

Sure it's only enough cover the cost of being in Iraq for a few days, but with Ron's record of fiscal responsibility, I bet he would be able to stretch it out a bit longer... or better yet, maybe actually put it to some kind of actual PRODUCTIVE use instead.

So then what?
It doesn't matter, because he has a SNOWBALL's CHANCE IN HELL of ever getting that kind of funding.

Go ahead... make tiny campaign contributions, and tell your friends to "hurt" his campaign by doing the same. I dare you.

At least that way people will get a chance to hear about him, since the mass media isn't carrying the message! :happydance:
