Last year I bought a D60 with the kit lenses (Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-S DX & Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX). In the winter I spend most of my time trying to get pictures of my kids skiing. Mostly in the park and pipe. I am usually really close to what ever object they are hitting and have a hard time getting both them and whatever the object is in the picture.

I tried to figure out what lense would help, but get confused easily. I am guessing it would be a wide angle, but after that I am loss. Any help would be great.

the 18mm isnt wide enough for you?
You know I am not sure I ever used that one. Told you I was stupid. I usually have the longer lense on the camera. Maybe instead of a lens a need a book. Any suggestions for the beginner photographer?

Yes, pick up "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson.

And put your wide angle lens on the camera. 55mm, which is fully zoomed out on the lens you're using, really isn't very wide. I bet your 18-55mm will be plenty wide enough.
