Well, today I made the unfortunate mistake of going to the local jump spot by myself to get a wee bit of riding in between classes, and of course this happened:

Hit the third jump of the six pack, had just finished my X-up and BAM, next thing I know I'm on the ground, in the dirt, trying to open my eyes. Strangely, I only recieved some minor abrasions...I was lucky. I got up to find the front wheel of my bike missing.

Here's a shot of the rotor, I have no idea how this happened.

This is whats left of the inside of my hub, again no idea.

Found the axle a few yards down the hill....er whats left of the axle.

I couldn't get a good contour shot of the wheel...but no surprise it's folded taco style. great.

Well, lesson learned, I will not be jumping by myself again, and I advise others to keep it safe too.

I'm guessing you hit the top of the landing with your wheel still slightly crossed. The impact most likely pushed the wheel flat rather than straight, and was ripped out of the forks as you and the frame continued to move over the top of it. That would explain everything you've described.

bump for this.

i killed my second QR axle tonight street riding doing 180.

landed it rolled back to hop 180 and my front wheel went flying down the road!

if you have a QR wheel on your jump/street bike get it off now b/f

you break for teeeeffff out.

Yeah, I've been borrowing my buds DOC for a bit and the QR axle scares me, especially cause of the mushy QR feel.
