I like taking things out on kids. I don't have any of my own so I just make fun of the fat ones and tell the rest of them that their mothers are whores.

Oh, and I don't remember ever being guaranteed food. If I didn't bring lunch or some money, I went hungry. Amazingly, I somehow survived the terrible ordeal and became a productive member of society. Of course it's a bit of a stretch to say "posting on ridemonkey" qualifies as "productive" :D

How much more does a slice of pizza costs compared to a cheese sandwich?
That comment doesn't really make sense. If they gave the deadbeats slices of pizza, then slices of pizza would become the badge of shame. If they gave the deadbeats BLT's, then BLT's would be the badge of shame.

I'm saying give the kids what they want and take it up with the parents.

I too don't understand the program that "fronts" food.

Being one of the minority in my town, as in "I pay school taxes even though I will never have kids", I would prefer kids eating cheese sammiches and $67k in outstanding lunch bills, rather than kids getting whatever they want, $300k in outstanding lunch bills, and my friggin' taxes going up AGAIN to cover the deadbeat parents kids eating prime rib.

How are you going to oblige the parents to pay up? Principal visits home? Write more letters? Hire a repo man? Starve the kids?

What is your suggestion to make them pay?

We should get refuned all the money we pay in school taxes if we hit 50 and don't have kids.
How about refunding people money if they never visit the city funded Opera House? I never drive on the roads in the SW part of town... can i get that money back? My house has never caught fire, refund me the part of my taxes from the fire dept please.

I can vote for or against the city funding an opera house.

It is not practical to figure out who uses what roads.

The fire department provides a direct benefit to me if I ever need them.

However I have no ability to vote on whether or not I pay school taxes, I recieve no benefit of paying those taxes, and it's very easy to determine who uses the schools and who doesn't.

I realize it's not practical to exempt people without kids from paying taxes, but I don't think it's unreasonable to look into giving us a discounted rate.

In many cities, school funding does come up for vote in general elections. If that's not the case in yours, then ask for it to be.

I recieve no benefit of paying those taxes...
You absolutely do... you get educated kids in your neighborhood who grow up to be doctors, accountants, cops, firefighters, whatever. And while the schools are for education, they also babysit the hooligans who would otherwise be vandalising your car and stealing your tofu.

In that same vein...why would I want to be shelling out money for cheese sandwiches for kids that want to vandalise my car and steal my tofu...if they're too weak to walk to my house, they ain't gettin' no tofurkey!!

:D :D

OK I suppose I do get some benefits. But I still think I should pay less taxes than the single mom who has 4 kids in school, who gets a huge subsidy (on top of the fat child support checks she gets from her millionaire ex-husband) to pay for all their lunches and extracuricular activities, football uniforms, band instruments, new lacrosse stadiums, etc

Are you being serious with the lacrosse stadium? As in: They have their own special complex for just playing lacrosse and nothing else?

Here, only the private, $100,000 a year high schools have lacrosse teams...and they play on the football field...

No kidding. I would qualify a better educated, more prepared society as more than just "some benefits." Sure, let's stop funding education and just wait for the economy to tank (along with your social security...which, by the way, is only funded by having an increasing population) and the people to elect someone EVEN DUMBER to run the show.

Who said anything about not funding education?

Giving a discount to the few people who never have and never will put a kid in the school system is not going to change the total tax roll by more than about .001%.
