Let's talk about handlebars...

Watchin' you. Writing it all down.
So I'm thinking that I don't like my handlebars. The flat part of the ergo is way too short. I feel like my hand could easily bounce off unless I maintain a death grip. And holding on at the bend gets uncomfortable quick.

I do like the flat wingy tops.

I'm sure some of it is that I have them rotated up so I get the nice flat between the bars and hoods.

Suggestions?

I just stuck one of the new Easton EC90 SLX3 bars on my new bike, and I am in super love with it.
It's got that new fancy "compact" drop on it, and is apparently pretty much the same bend that FSA developed a little while back.
I don't ride too much in the drops, unless I'm descending, but it feels great when I do.

Did you try moving the STIs up higher on the bars? That might help a bit.

I've moved the levers a couple of times but this is about the best compromise I can find. The bend on the easton looks like what I'm looking for but does it have a wingy top?

No, no flat top, it's a round bar. I like the "wing" bars in theory, but in practice I'm not totally sold on them. I'm making the exception on one of my bikes because the bar is white, and I'm a Euro dork like that, but it's not a super-wingy bar like the EC70 from Easton or something.

Which bar is that? An FSA?

I could probably do without the flat top but I like that part of my current bar.

I saw where Zipp was coming out with a flat top bar that had a bend similar to the easton (at least it looks like that).

If the side of the stem shows "magnesium faceplate" near the bar, and your stems faceplate does not have anything printed on it, the faceplate should be replaced.

I freakin love the shape of Zipp's non-wing bar. Easton's Ec90 is also nice. I'm satisfied enough with my EC70. Handlebars are too $$$. I want one of the Ec90 bars.

Find out. If so, it's recalled.

I like Ritchey WCS Pro bend or Deda Newtons.
I'm still in awe of how light Deda can get their alloy bars and stems. 107g or so for a 120mm stem? Crazy.
We use them on the bikes we build in-house, the black ones though, not the color dark metal polish pictured above.
I have a bar/stem that I got for my winter bike, but I got the wrong sizes, so am waiting for new ones.
Keep in mind, though, that Deda measures differently than most other brands. So a 44cm Easton or FSA bar is equivalent to a 46cm Deda bar. They measure outside-to-outside, vs. center-to-center.

That is true, but even so, my WCS that is 44 c-c is still wider than my 46 cm Newton bar by a bit. I need to ditch my Ritchey stuff for a Newton stem. If one, say a 110, ended up in my mailbox, I wouldn't be upset. ;)

I want to try Easton one day too, but haven't, due to liking these other pro bends.

Yeah, they are a bit narrower than some of the others.
I need a 120, but have a 110 now, sorry but I'm gonna trade it in...

As I said, I'm a big fan of the new Easton bend...
