Shimano please make a narrower(say 100mm)Alfine hub, in both 5,6 or 7speed, and 11 speed for gearbox use. No need for any shwanky gearbox standards, axle's will be fine( a cam for chain tightening would be good but). You can also make a gearbox standard for all the low pivot marketing brands, and XC bikes etc, but just punch out that hub first, it'll be used in hardtails through to DH bikes easily, moreso than a gearbox standard, but you do what you gotta do.
Also tidy up the shifter mess so brakes can stay on the left, and both sprockets can go on the right. Sooo easy for you. You could revolutionize the MTN bike market again. I know, it'd kill sales, but we've paid our dues. We'd still need spares, and other stuff. It's pretty much the end of the road now for mega profit from us MTBikers, Brakes are pretty much good enough once you stop dicking around with silly adjusters and get it right, same with hubs, cranks etc.
SRAM, or anyone else, you can jump the gun on this first if you want. No loyalties when it comes to doing what's right.
