There are a few gas stations around here with reg-unleaded at $2.00 but there are a number of places off the interstate with prices around $1.85.

The local news says we will probably hit $2.00/gal regular by the weekend.

Thank god Iraq was Bush's War for cheap oil!

Gotta love how his war mongering ways have made OPEC people happy campers.

Not to mention how he has refused multiple times to release any oil from the US reserves. go Bush, you self centered, egotistical moron.

Actually they are distributing the strategic reserves... See the BBC.

$2.51 is about where it is for 87 octane, and between $2.71 and $2.89 for premium. I drive 25 miles each way to work in a truck that gets 13mpg in stop and go traffic (which is pretty much the norm). It's painful.

Way to complain guys...Its about 90 cents a litre here....that is about 3.60cnd a gallon..or about 3.45usd a gallon. OUCH

As for them distributing the reserves...I had not heard of this, it must have happenned very recently. As of last week they were still getting shot down.

And yes, price control IS one of the uses of the strategic reserves, especially when it will help to keep the US economy from tanking just prior to the lasrgest purchasing season fo the year.

I work about 6 blocks away from a Conoco fuel depot that has like 6 12.5 million gallon tanks. Maybe we should torch the place and teach them a lesson for ganking us at the gas station!

$100 a month for commuting (just gas though, no other costs factored in) ain't all that bad, i suppose. what's a monthly train pass cost?

That's beautiful, but it's all about where you live and what you are used to........and the large majority of my driving years I am used to 99 cents a gallon

99 cents a gallon

I can't wait for Silver to start assaulting my faith. I mean Jesus wouldn't complain about gas prices would he?
JC don't drive. And if he did he would do the whole water into petrol thing.

2.35 for the El Cheapo stuff here. Thank goodness the Honda gets over 20 miles per gallon. If I get the new job I am applying for I will be able to ride to workthough, which would be a fine F-U to the oil companies.

close enough, just as my exams started so I have been outta touch. :)
The thing I saw about this was actually a report on BBC world (TV) - it was right at the end of a report about the Russian company (Yukos) and it's tax shenanigans with the Russian government. The reporter was speculating about how much this might push up already high oil prices, and she said (and this is pretty much word for word I think):
"In order to keep prices low in the US, the Government has started to distribute it's strategic reserves despite President Bush's repeated promises not to."

It wouldn't suprise me it they have several different ways of classifying the reserves so that they can release some stocks to the market, while at the same time not officially releasing the 'strategic' reserves. The amount that is classed as 'strategic' probably changes every 20 minutes.

No trains in So Cal that get you from Mission or Aliso Viejo (I'm assuming) to Orange.

Btw...we still have to meet up at Hollingshead some time...(El Jefe, that is...you up for a lunch ride maybe?)
