Hi. This is an open question to all riders. My dad and I are planning a bike road trip this April. We're planning to leave Seattle and hit the Oregon coast, into northern Cali (with emphasis in the Arcata area), across Nvada and finish up in Utah. So I was hoping to maybe tap into the mountain bike community's pool of knowledge for some tip-offs to some cool trails, bike shops, destinations etc. along the way. I've been riding the Washington northwest forever so this is a trip for getting out to explore some new environments. I'd be happy to trade for some insider info on the home trails here in Bellingham and Seattle. Thanks, D

Utah has a lot of good singletrack in the Wasatch range, near Salt Lake. Most of the trails are open to bicycles and many are also open to motorcycles which I found a little wierd. Even though there are lots of trails you'll have a hard time finding anyone who rides bikes on them and actually knows anything about them. Aside from a select few, trails in Utah are pretty much unknown to the general population, honestly I'd just pick up a guide book at barnes and noble and pick a couple of trails. Of the trails I rode in the state the ones that stand out are Ridge Trail 157 it is one of the best and more popular trails, gooseberry mesa in the southern part of the state has some really fun slickrock ridding and isn't so out of the way as Moab, Moab is a must see but I was a little dissapointed the one time I went, I only rode the Porcupine Rim trail which was fun but I was expecting a lot more technical ridding, more slickrock and more wide open descents, between Gooseberry Mesa and Moab I had more fun at Gooseberry Mesa. If it were me I'd try and stick to the northern part of the state around SLC there's a lot more variety and you won't have to ride in uncomfortably hot temperatures.

You must hike in Zion National Park.

Yeah, I know, you said you wanted bike info. Doesn't matter, take a day off the bike and explore one of the coolest places on the planet. I like it more than the Grand Canyon.

Have fun!
