Look Out For The Roadies!!!!!

Why is it that every time a roadie sees a mountainbiker the roadie gives the mountain biker a dirty look like they're lower than whale sperm? We're all doing the same thing, just riding on different types of terrain. So my tires make a humming noise on the road. So my bike has full suspension? Who cares? When you see someone out on a bike, be glad that there is someone who atleast wants to do something other than sit at home and play playstation. I'm out rehabilitating my knee after an injury. When I'm ready to ride trails again, I'll get back off road and ride hard like I used to. But till then , cant we share the roads and be happy?

i'm pretty sure it's not cuz you're on a mtb, but more just that people don't like you.

PS: Who let you out of the political forum? I'm so gonna slap Slugman for leaving the door open.

man, When I am riding manuals or wheelies or just messing around and a roadie rides by we both wave to each other. The roadie normaly has a smile on his face too. A bunch of roadies also ride mountains too.

That's never happened to me...Unless of course its a fat old rich dude on a Trek Madone that's clipping along at a blazing 8 mph on a downhill...and I pass him. Then again, the same rule holds true for fat old rich dudes on expensive MTBs :D

hah, I met like 5 roadies this one time on my way to my local trail, full DH gear, shock making the whole "pssshhhhkkkk" noise every time I pedaled, and I still got a friendly wave.

i think its because they know that we Mt bikers are having more fun...LMAO. I ride with the roadies maybe 4-5 times a year,,,they are so clique' and snobby...LOL They really hate it when i stomp their gram counting, calorie weighing, leg shaved azzes on my 10 year old GT Force (with hairy legs and a camelback)....they usually don't even talk to me after the ride...LOL I usually only do it when i cant ride my Mt bike for some reason...like last week i had to send my Hayes for warranty work..its really resentent....most of em have tried Mt biking and dont have the spine for it. I was riding to a trail head a month or so ago on my ironhorse with 2.5" tires and i see a roadie all decked out down the road...he turns and see's me at the bottom of the hill and pours it on to try and drop me...i stuck to his wheel...he almost fell off his bike when he turned around at the top to see how far behind i was and i was right on his wheel...roflmao

Either you're Filip Meirhaghe you have some really wimpy roadies in Vermont. If some guy on a freeride bike comes by me when I'm seriously riding my road bike, I'll hang it up for good. But it ain't gonna happen. Around here, most of the roadies also ride MTBs and they do it just fine. And they're friendly during and after rides no matter who stomped who on the ride. Maybe they won't talk to you because your attitude sucks. And I'm not talking as a roadie, because I spend equal time on all my bikes, road, XC, and "freeride".

I know a roadie that talks smack about how much "harder on the body the road riding is, what with the position, unforgiving nature of the aluminum frame, yadda... yadda...."

To which I asked - "So why don't you just ride a mt bike on the road, then?"

He stared at me blankly............. as if this solution was so simple as to be unthinkable. :thumb:

Every sunday me & La go for a 10 mile road ride & every sunday we see (more like get dropped) by the same roadies & they are all cool & say "g'mornin'." & stuff. More than likely it is the rider & not the kind of bike they are on.

I wave to/smile/greet every biker, walker, and jogger I see while I'm road riding. The walkers and joggers don't all return the greetings, but the roadies all do. I really can't compare MTB vs roadies around here because I am never on the road with my mountain bike. I do wave if I see a person riding an MTB on the road. Bikes is bikes.

everybody has stinky poo, so it's not that big a deal if someone doesn't wave. But i wish we all waved, the world would be alot easier.

I refuse to wave. However I do wink and lick my lips when passing other riders.

When i ride real fast and leaves, ferns, branches hit me i figure they're giving me high fives, which makes me feel good. At least we know the plants of this world aren't stuck up.

Well opie, what can I say? I have that effect on people. Still doesnt change the fact that roadies are snobs, and MTB riders have MORE fun.

P.S. Slugman was well paid to let me out BWAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

i agree we all have stinky poo...whatever...i wave to everyone on a bike...admitly i am not on the road that often...but i was/am talking about a certain type of roadie who is infatuated by Euro racing...not your sunday morning bike path riders...you give em a wave the do the NY subway thing and pretend you dont exist. Its not the rider 'cause they dont know me or my wife or my buds.....:) i wonder what would happen if lance was up here at mt snow riding his trek...i bet he could keep up with em on there 23mm tires with his mt bike... :D

yeah...you can tell him i saw a putney rider downtown this morn (riding the other way) i waved and he couldn't even wift his wittle hand off the handlebar to wave back!

This is a IM i got from my wife who was commuting to work this morning...a putney rider is a roadie with West Hill...the elitist roadie shop around here...real nice eh
