lookin for opinions on a XC/FS bike

Well, were heading into yet another season of racing, and im finding myself without my trusty hardtail, an Ellsworth Sub 22 (which was stolen right outta my garage, grrr) And with my impending new job (yay! cash flow!) im looking into buying a new XC bike, preferably full suspesion (what can i say? my a$$ likes cushy rides) and am finding a few already at my LBS, such as the Specialized Rockhopper FSR Comp Disc and the Stumpjumper FSR. I wanted to get any info about them from all you monkeys and see if you had any other suggestions for XC/FS under $2,000. Thanks all :monkey:

Personally I don't find FSRs to be good for XC (with the exception perhaps, of the Epic). I find they're too active (ie too much bob), yet with only a couple of inches of travel, it's not enough to justify going crazy on the downhills. JMO.

Considered anything out of the Marin XC range? I know a lot of people don't like them, but they're light, pedal well, active enough, etc.

Another vote for the NRS...unbelievable how little bob goes on. Full suspension is da real thing - not sure why it took me so long to make the switch (just this year). And if you can afford disc brakes, get them.

I've got a Trek Fuel 98 that's going in to it's third season as my XC race bike. I love it for XC racing. If I was after more of a "trail bike" just for riding with friends or whatever I'm not sure I'd choose it as I would probably want something plusher. For racing though, it's a rocket (only wish I was;) ).
