im looking to get a bike and get back into DJ, but im not entirely sure what to get. Looking for some suggestions and for some places to check out online.
Im looking for a complete that I could upgrade as I go.
I would like Disc brakes and its gotta be a single speed.
Price range ~$600

Im about 5'6"....on a good day, any companies that make a DJ frame thats on the small side?

yup, steel reserve 1.1 $470 bucks.

If I were to throw a marzocchi fork on it, what else would I need to upgrade? I dont need the best of the best, but would like a little quality.

I would go with the Steel reserve 1.2 (which has front suspension) but the fork it comes with isnt real great.

I also was looking at the DK Asterik, comes with a marzocchi fork, but is it a decent frame?

although i think the DK Asterik is an all-around excellent deal for the money (4130 chromoly frame, sturdy wheels, good cranks, Marz fork, etc.), for your height i would not recommend the Asterik because the seat tube/top tube is taller than most DJ bikes, and the bb is lower and cs is longer.

An Eastern Thunderbird or Nighttrain (now called the Mad Dog??) would be a better fit.

My recommendations would be:

1) Blackmarket Soldier - They revolutionized dirt jumper geo. Founded by a former bmx rider turned mtb rider. The complete comes with a very solid parts selection. The best choice.

2) Atomlab Pimp 2 complete.

3) Eastern Nighttrain - Extremely bmx-ish geometry. Suuuuper short cs at 14.7" and short-ish top tube at 21.5"tt makes it a great choice for shorter riders or regular height riders who want a bike that is very bmx-style maneuverable. 14mm axle even raises possibility of rear peg for feeble grinds, although disc brake kinda counteracts that--if it's on the same side you run the risk of bashing the disc. The Thunderbird and Night Train have been popular with my friends. Great handling. Although not bombproof. Tweaked wheel, tweaked handlebar. Bent steer tube on the Thunderbird's RST Space fork, performance problems with other RST Space forks. However, Night Train does come with excellent Rock Shox Argyle.
On sale now marked to $1049 from $1400 http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/BI274R00-Eastern+Nighttrain+Bike+10+Special.aspx

thanks for the info man. appreciate you takin the time to fill me in.
I know a shop in town who carries haro, i know the steel reserve comes in a short and a long, and specialized so I might go check those frames out, actually get my hands on one. the night train looks like it would be the best one, but price wise its still a little out of reach.
is jensonusa the best site to check out for deals?

You ain't jumping trials bike. Not more than once anyway.
i guess i will do this either way, but if i put a front disc on it, id like to mess around on it some. no serious trials but just screwing around.

at this point im torn between looking for a 24 or a 26.
a know a guy that has a P2 with 24s, how would that ride? Havent had a chance to ask him.
