Hi there,

My name is Bradley and I need a new hobby. Mountain biking seems fun, but I need equipment. I'm not sure what type of terrain I'll be riding. I'm from Baltimore, MD and want a place to ride not too far from here. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to bike and what sort of bike and equipment I'll need for the terrain that I'll find? I'm willing to spend a decent amount of money, as I realize it can be an expensive sport.

For places to ride, try http://www.mtbproject.com/.

Don't dump a bunch of money to start. Buy a used bike, any bike, but get some help to make sure it fits you right. Spend $35- on a helmet. Ride for a year or two on any kind of trail you can find. You'll figure out what you like and have a much better idea what you might want on an ongoing basis for bike and gear.
