Ive never watched this show, but I question how long you can possibly keep an interesting story going on while stuck on an island with the same characters over and over. Even Gilligan got boring after a while...

...flipping through, I saw a guy kill a polar bear one time. A little "too interesting" for my tastes. Not hating tho.

Last night was a little slow, but the end was good. I love Ben/Henry Gale's character!! Next week looks kickass as well. Will be interesting to see what's up w/ the hatch, Locke, Mr. Eko, etc...

I think the question was: "Are they writing themselves into a corner?"

My answer would be "No."

As one would be led to initially think that a show on a deserted island would grind to a halt after a period of time, I think "Lost" is a different set of circumstances altogether. If you've followed the storylines(and there's a lot of 'em), it's easy to tell that there are a million different directions this show could go. The interactions with the "others" are just the tip of the iceburg here. I mean, they took 2 seasons to show the viewers the tales of the fuselage survivors and the tail section survivors along with backstories of those characters---and that's not counting the teases of the DHARMA Initiative and the HANSO foundation(which could be one and the same). My point being, the characters lives are so interwoven with each other by now in so many small ways that we, the viewer, are given the privledge of knowing, that the story can almost write itself at this point. Since so many of the characters have a six-degree-of-separation thing going on, there aren't any particular ones that you could say "Oh......that character is irrevelant, why is he/she even here?" Because of that, the viewer has a vested interest in following ALL of the characters in the chance one of their stories may answer questions raised by other characters in the story.

I rather enjoy the direction they have taken at the end of last season and the beginning of this one. It's an interesting mix of supernatural and science. Season 1 dealt solely with the mysterious nature of the island and basic survival of the castaways.......I'm sure there were some impatient viewers who wanted instant payoff and resolution to every story every week, but that's not how "Lost" rolls. You get little bits here and there, and if you're the kind of viewer who finds that interesting, it's a fantastic show to watch every week. I think it's a show that could run 10 seasons easily, but I imagine they'll probably shave that off to around 5 seasons considering the expensive nature of filming in Hawaii and the growing popularity of the characters involved.

Have to agree with Greyhound, the show can go in too many directions to write itself into a corner. It also has a way of introducing an idea and then not revisiting it for a long while. Just when you forgot about it, it looks like the "monster" in the jungle may be back next week.

My answer is no. The character development is ingenius. The themes are weird, weirder, and weirdest. The "monster" comes back in the next episode supposedly (1st season watchers will know what I'm talking about). I really enjoy the show.

My main complaint is that there are too many damn commercials and things evolve too slowly. I love the show, I hate the waiting.

so far I think lost has gone down hill this season.

I was hooked on "Lost" during its first season, but found myself getting really frustrated with it last season. At the end of every episode, they would always say "find out what happens next week," but they wouldn't ever tell us what was going on. I think I watched about 3 episodes last season and haven't seen the show since...

i think this is the point where we are starting to get big answers.

SPOILER ALERT

in just two episodes we get clear confirmation of why/how the plane crashed and how people may have survived (mass magnetic discharge/anomaly from the countdown 'accident'); how the 'others' are really an established organized group (although their role and origin is still unknown, i suspect it's something like guardianship of the island and its secrets and awful truths), that one of the islands stations had some kind of animal genetics projects going on (the cages, aquarium....remember the polar bear?)....anyways i think the dots are going to start to get connected more and more as the 'others' are exposed as not being hillbillies and the mystical stuff gets debunked into weird-science and coincidence....

ya the show rocks

The show does rock, I think it was interesting they offered Jack the concept of leaving the Island in exchange for some help. I am guessing the help has to do with the rest of the Losties...

So something occurred to me lying in bed at 4am.

Do you s'pose Stephen King has anything to do with the writing? The show totally reads like a SK novel. I bajillion little unrelated WEIRD stories that all (sort of) come together in the end. And in their book club a few weeks ago they were talking about a SK book....and he is very big on writing himelf into stories. I mean the hatch is sort of Tommyknocker-esque.

I think I've blown this WIIIIDE open!!

I havent read this thread, but has anybody brought up the point that this is 'supposed' to be a 5 year program with a beginning, middle and END. At least that's the rumor. The TV geek that used to set next to me was on line ALL DAY chatting with hot chic’s and dorks about LOST.

beginning, middle and END. .

Bruce: Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. (Slapping Dave with each "Stop it") I've gotta stop you and your revolutionaries from taking over this country.
Dave: No, it is I who will stop you and your revolutionaries from taking over this country.
Mark: (Runs in shotting guns off in a sheriff's outfit) Hell, both of you stop it. Don't you guys remember what happened last time? (Turns around to see dog dangling in a harness) Oh, mornin' Mr. Mayor, how are ya, anyway? I see you're back. Thought you weren't comin' back 'til Tuesday. That's what I thought, cuz, that's what I heard, yea...

well, Star Trek had a five year mission...
Ha,
I read an article written by Stephen King talking about how awesome of a start that Lost got off to, and how interesting the show was etc...
He mentioned that the show had a 5 year plan and was pleading to the creators to stick with it. When the ratings are so high the network heads will do whatever they can to drag the show on and on.
That's why the teenagers in 90210 were 56 when it ended.:bonk:

Although not directly associated with the suit, HansoAir also clarifies that no illegal activities involving the Auto Pilot systems for Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 took place. These supposed illegal activities are fabricated for the lawsuit by Mack Thompson Law and have zero basis on reality.
lmao! Even the net is intertwisted like their show.....all planted web sites.
