Ehh ... I didn't think things were that bad. Then again, I realize that people (and mtn bikers especially) can be rude and crass; particularly when they're in an anonymous environment such as this.

Anyways, if they cross the line with me then they'll be sorry ... 'cause I'll pee on their reputation. ;)

I only come here for PAWNed, BMX and teh l0ung3... I can handle a bit of banter but it has often just been stupid. As long as we still get to occasionally hear all the dirty laundry about Opie's screwed up relationships it's cool with me. :)

I have been here a long time. I've had a warning or two. And one substantial meltdown. All in all it's a damn good site, but...

I accept RM for what it is: NOT MINE.

:D

I like it that way.

One thing I've noticed though is that there are some people who are on here for NO reason other that to make there own little insecure lives seem better. They are condescending and rude, and offer little or nothing to conversations.

I might be obnoxious, but I at least listen to people and I try the occasional humility. I also try to keep it lighthearted. (stupid? yes, but lighthearted)

I also post the occasional HELPFUL contribution. There are alot of sour people on here that basically do nothing but troll for flame wars.

Anyway, noted on the warning, I will excercise even more self-deletion.
:)

The rep system doesn't do much. It would, if there were some external affect felt by either a substantially good (or bad) reputation rating. Let's say your rep is in the toilet, maybe you're only allowed to post 5 times a day? Your posts better be meaningful if you only have 5 chances to rebuild your rep.

Maybe you've got really good rep, as in narlus-good
Maybe you get some perks such as a larger PM box, the ability to modify your own custom title, whatever. I really don't know what you could use as an incentive to "be good." Maybe there doesn't need to be one. Maybe, the visual badge of a good reputation is reward enough. I dunno. I'm just thinking out loud.

I don't like the idea of promoting the "ratting out" of other members. What are we, communists? Must we govern each other? Must we worry about others constantly governing us? The fact that a few of us have crossed the proverbial "line" recently doesn't necessitate the need for a forum-wide witch hunt. Nor does it justify this "two strikes and you're out" imposition of policy. All this strong-arming and backstabbing does is plant seeds of contempt in long time forum members who have done nothing wrong.

Hell, I suppose you could commend those "notifying" the moderators by giving them a nice jackass stamp
for every successful action taken upon a post originally brought to the moderators attention by said user. That way we can really see who has "the most pride in the forum."

Go ahead and threaten me all you want. I don't even know what your barometer of "improper content" includes. But if I'm ever banned for any unjust period of time (and I consider a month to be unjust for most offences) you can kiss my mountain biking ass goodbye. That may not be a threat to anyone here, but if enough people are perma-banned or lost for whatever other reason we are going to see a rapid drop off in participation and possibly a mass-migration to another site. I've seen it happen before, and that forum never recovered.

I enjoy Ridemonkey for what it is. Let us not turn it into an over-moderated, micro-managed, hyper-censored, community of tight-assed bikers. If we were those kinds of people, we'd primarily ride on the road with skinny tires.

How hard is it to figure out?

Don't post content or links that will piss off advertisers and don't be a flaming asshole.

It's not rocket surgery.

I don't know who you've been talking to, but I no longer know what's considered "improper."

Is saying asshole improper? What about getting around the censor and saying pvssy? What about using euphamisms, "...after my ride, I ate my girlfriends' sandwich. And my sandwich, I don't mean something you put in a ziplock bag."

What about pictures? I think that picture of the guy puking out of his nostrils is disgusting, but is it improper? Would Stinkyboy be banned for a month if he applied it as his avatar (not that he ever would ;) ). I dunno. Can I call a motorist whom I've had a confrontation with a cock-gobbler?

I don't need a detailed f'ing list. I just want some guidlines. I'm not TRYING to be a complete dick about this, but you're talking to me like I should already know what's going through everyone else's mind.

The "report bad post" button has always been there. Some people use it, some people don't. Sometimes when a post gets reported, the mods look at it and decide it's fine. Other times we delete it. There's no witchhunt. And it's nothing new. It's a feature that's always been in place to account for the fact that moderators don't have time to read every thread.

Oh I know it's always been there, in fact I think I've even used it once. The feeling I'm getting from these new threads is that people are being persuaded to use it more often. More often than they normally would; and that doesn't seem right.

I think that they will use it at the wrong times. I posted some questionable words a couple of times today, and some things in poor taste, but it sounds like someone wore the button out on me. I just don't see how that is needed. I think some people will do it to be funny, like they do with rep. It's cool to hate me you know. Not that I care, but it shouldn't be trendy. I am just gonna start a new account and let loco die the death they think he deserves. Before anyone says it's whining, I'll say it. Some of you people will make anyone whine. :mumble:

I think you're misinterpreting. The point was, if you see something inappropriate, don't make a thread about it, thereby glorifying it. If some people feel like reporting it that's fine too. It would actually be a pain in the ass if EVERYONE reported EVERY bad post. The reporting system works fine, the problem was the making threads. You're putting the emphasis on the wrong point.

The idea behind that is that this is a mountain biking site, and people tend to behave on here when they're talking about mountain biking.

I'm not getting rid of the lounge, but I'm taking it out of the spotlight. There are too many members here who seemingly ONLY visit the lounge.
While I don't exclusivly vistit the lounge, I do find it to be the most interesting forum. However I do like the idea of trying to get the poop flinging toned down, it was a much cooler place to visit 3 months ago. The longe is still a cool place and I like the idea of a place to talk about the random stuff that happens on a day in day out bassis. with fellow riders, even if the discussions aren't bike related. If the plan you're working on works, and it likley will, I see no need to move the lounge down to the PAWN area of the site. I will admit that I have flamed people for being retared and posting sensless drivel, but I have enstated a new policy of ignoring those people's posts. I kind of see where the rep thing may be going, but I can see it getting ugly, for instance Bluebug, she has never done anything that I would disapprove of, and yet she somehow has a horrible rep. once the minor issues like that are fixed it could start to work well.

WELL, I guess the comment about Photoshopping, or as us professionals in the biz call it, "retouching," was about me. Okay I admit, I did take advantage of one guy by a pic he showed in a bragging kind of way kissing his lady. And I retouched it so it looked like he was kissing CARROT TOP with a heart tatoo on his arm saying Carrot Top. I did it to be funny and to get a laugh. l figured some of his buddies would bust up on him when they saw it seeing so many people here seem to know each other.

Moreover, I did watch the post at first cuz I really wasn't sure what the guy would do in reaction to the shot and I was going to see if he got angry about it and if he posted he was, all I'd have to do is delete it in my photos online and there would be no picture in the post. But the guy didn't do it. In fact, SO many people liked it and I got SO many little green boxes in my control panel with comments saying how funny they thought it was or how they thought it was great retouching. So although it's obvious that the guy wasn't kissing Carrot Top in the photo cuz the REAL photo of him kissing his girl is directly above it, I figure no one would actually think the shot was real. I mean I didn't even color correct his skin tone in the shot to make it look like they were shot in the same room at the same time under the same lighting. But if anyone go mad about it, surely no one notified me and admin never said to me, "knock it off." .

AND I did retouch the Ride Monkey logo WHICH I still think looks like he's crazy. And everyone SEEMED to get a kick out of that. But for all I know, someone's nine year old daughter probably drew it and therefor I offended someone else. So forgive me. Hold the cross.

AND I did retouch some guy's avatar when he said something about the rating system and how "everyone's being so nice to him." So I retouched his hair off making him look bald as a sort of pun saying to him, "Here's your first sarcastic cutdown." It was a little hee hee to his, "Gee everyone has been so nice to me," comment. It's like someone leaving sarcastic comments on someone elses post to be funny and I guess that is okay but Pictorially it's not. I did it to imply the sarcasm yet in a pictorial way. It was kind of like a scene in a movie where someone in a car says, "Boy I love New York, people are so friendly here," followed by a loud horn blowing and someone yelling, "HEY MOVE THAT PEICE OF CRAP LADY! GET THE F--K OUTTA DA WAY!"

And I mentioned to Stinkyboy in another post about his Avatar, who everyone knows is the lustful, lucious, lovely, lanky, porn star Christy Canyon. I told him I loved Christy and joked her and I were buddies etc and retouched my avatar and his to look like a signed photo of her and I together but it wasn't offensive.

Okay, so I just read this today NOW which figures, AFTER I already posted my feelings on the bad stuff back and forth on the site in another post and I HOPE you will have a good sense of humor cuz once again I made fun of the way things are here with all the yelling back and forth and how my feelings on the subject were due to the goofey RM Logo that looks like the way YOU probably look while trying to keep the peace here on the site. I mean is THAT out of line? I think common sense applies as to what is appropriate but things that are meant to be humorous and funny, including retouching of photos to make people laugh and so far, that is exactly what I have got in feedback, should not be looked upon so harshly. But it's your ballgame so I guess I have no choice. I'd just like to know if someone who I retouched, being one person, one avatar, and the RM logo, if anyone was offended and if so, someone should PM me and I'll take the link down. It's that simple. Don't want to tick anyone off. Cus I figure that "photoshopping" comment was direct to me. Geeze, ya want me to put a gun to my head?

I'm just a puppet listening to the voices in my head tell me what to do it. My bad. Mi dispiaché. I appologize. Sorry. A lot of people liked it. Sorry I stepped on a few people's brittle toes.

I figure after you see todays analogy about your typical day, I'll probably get booted. But for what? Having a sence of humor? GEEZE.

If you meant me, message me and tell me okay. Sorry for the ribbing.

And if that guy in the Carrot Top photo is ticked, tell me and I'll take it down.

Hey Chunky Monkey... You weren't the intended target with that initial post.

N8 was the primary target for a little while. There were several pictures of him around and basically every single one got photoshopped into something or other.

Don't take it so personally - believe me, you would have gotten a PM from a mod or had your post deleted if you were crossing major boundaries.
