That measurement(The proper way to do it) is the height with respect to the rear axle height. +0 would be 13" on a perfectly 26" tire, +9.6mm would be taller, -15mm would be lower ect.

yes, i am aware of how it is measured.. i was more or less just wondering whats the new 'norm' for trail bikes, basically wondering if it is good for an all around frame.

Is that an Enduro SX? 12.5" isn't crazy low for a 4" travel bike. Probably just about right.mine....

It was specifically built to be a fast playful bike, I wanted it low & slack. I got sick of 180mm+ of suspension taking the fun out of my local trails. This is the bike in a more mini-DH state, Ive run it with larger cassette and a dropper post for more enduro riding. It's immense fun, pops and jumps really well and pushes me as a rider to hold on for dear life as there's no plush suspension soaking up the ride. Its the one bike that I can't see leaving my garage for a long time. The shock is maxed with with high pressure and volume kit so it ramps quickly which makes it handle like a hard tail with just enough cushion to take the edge of stuff.
Even with those DH wheels it weighs next to nothing, with my carbon havens its positively stupidly light yet still able to take a beating.

not sure on exact weight - Ill chuck it on my park scale this weekend.
The fork was modified to reduce in travel to 130mm, it was a bit of a one way operation as it required some chopping and faffing with internal volumes and oil levels to get it dialled right. I think if I was doing it again now I'd go with a rockshox pike which I understand is easily reducible with spacers, is reversible and offers great damping perf out the box with their new charger system.
Id love to try and put a CCDa or TTX on the back end to see what could be achieved...

my first generation enduro sx was so much fun..id imagine that thing is pretty badass..
I think it is - its definitely a quick bike and in the right hands would be a potent weapon on an enduro race like the megavalanche Im sure. Its definitely possible to carry so much speed into the usual rock/root stuff to cause some arse clenching moments - it just doesn't have the travel to soak the gnar up like a bugger bike but if you pick your line choice right and hold on...its quick and "entertaining". In some ways its like a lower more playful enduro or stumpy with a solid back end that doesn't flex too much (not like the '10-'12 Enduro anyway)
Nicolai Ion 16 27.5 is lower than I expected, -15mm they even have a leverage curve chart in the specs.
Might go a bit over budget?

I need to bug the local distro about them since I love nicolais and I would be super happy to own one but I need to get 2 bikes.

nicolai would be next choice for me
its about budget. It is durable frame, and it is still cheap as new of course.

You ever get the bars/stem sorted out?
I've got a 55mm Syntace Flat Force en route from GG. With a 0 degree Thomson and a flat bar it's alright in trail mode. The increased stack height that results from lowering the BB makes gravity mode pretty unusable for me, so the drop stem will help there.

Ive gone pretty much the opposite direction...running 20mm of spacers with a 10mm rise stem and 20mm bars on mine...When I first started riding dh in 2001 it was all about the 3" rise pro tapers..by 2005 I was running my bar height as low as possible...now Im starting to raise my bars back up but I drew the line yesterday when I threw some 30mm renthals..I could have taken some spacers out but figured Id rather have option of a longer steer tube...
I also had/have a shoulder injury and having the bars up definitely feels better..especially when seated climbing for me...I do run my seat pretty high for my leg length when climbing though..it was interesting hearing Fabien's bike check on Vital this morning..last year he was all about the tall cockpit and now he has it slammed..

Ha. I've got a flat bar, -42mm (yeah, really) stem and 10mm of spacers. Different strokes I guess.
