Luddite needs advice, what bike for crystal mountain loop?

Hi All,

My favorite ride is the crystal mountain loop, up from henskin lake. Looking for recommendations for a full suspension bike that's optimized for that sort of ride: lots of granny gear, loose gravel, slow speeds, big upward steps and a fair bit of carrying the thing. Looking to optimize for the climb, lots of grip and control in the steeps. I'm happy descending on my current 1994 hardtail except for the canti brakes which take a lot of energy to modulate well.

I've ridden the pivot 429 in moab and while it was fast and comfortable for long rides I don't like the high handlebar height and extra weight of the 29" wheels, didn't seem so suited to the tight climbs where I'm stymied today. Rode a fisher roscoe 2 down skyline on haleakela and while descent was insanely good the weight and bob were not acceptable. Thinking back, I'm lucky I'm alive given the speeds the roscoe permitted.

Thanks.
