Searched the forums and can't find anything, and with the intro of the M3, M1 stats are hard to come by...

So here are couple of questions:

What are some wheelbase measurements for medium M1's (with a boxxer, if anyone knows)? I suspect maybe 45-45.5"??

Is the resevoir of the 5th ELement the only thing preventing an M1 from using all 3 shock mount positions? If so, it seems the remote resevoir 5th allow all three positions?

Thanks in advance -

JF

If you are using a 2002 or later frame you can use the shock on all 3 positions.

With a Dorado DH the wheelbase is 45 inches.

The 45¨ measure is with a 7¨ Dorado, the longest chainstay possible (there are 2 holes there, I am using the far one) and the shock mount at the middle position.

No you can't, the Ti spring on the 5th is to thick/wide to use the bottom hole in the link. On my frame, and on all the frames in my area, there isn't even thread in the lower hole, so you can only use the top and middle position(2002 and 2003 frames)

Yeah, I never tried the botton hole. It leaves the BB too low. I will see if it fits.

Yeah, I've got an '01 m1 and the middle hole is perfect, especially in the longer setting. Long, low, and slack. Basically, it's perfect. Have fun out there.

I use the top hole. When the course is very fast and with little pedal I use the middle hole. I've never used the botton hole.

Guess they screwed me, mine came with a steel spring? Maybe with my imense posterior they didn't have a spring that big???
The M1s that came with 5th Element shocks (2002/3) came with Ti springs. If you have a M1 with a Fox shock (before 2002) it has a steel spring.
