Anyone know the story on the M3? Our local Distributer (The Fix The Fix ) has been told that they should have frames by the end of the month, but I have heard rumors of production problems......anyone? :mumble:

Holy sh*t!!!!!!!

How come no one mentioned this yet? Karpiel closes down and everyone gets on his a*s and trash him, if there is a fire in Intense facotory and no one talks about it....that would be pretty f8cked up....

Is that for real? Crap if it is. A couple of my friends have been waiting for them since the beginning of the summer. Every month, it becomes "Next month".

They have been riding them for most of the season. Maybe they got priority since the shop they're affiliate with are a big intense dealer combined with the fact that several had no rides since their M1s broke last season with no parts available. All were also small sizes so maybe that makes a difference..
I am guessing it isn't that. The 2 people I know who have been waiting are both on a regional team sponsored by Intense and work (one now former) for a large dealer. One is a pro, the other a fast expert. They were suppossedly "hot listed" (or whatever the Intense term is) b/c their x-small M1's were built horribly out of alignment. No matter the setup, the tire ALWAYS bottomed on the seatmast. They are still waiting, and have been sice ~the beginning of the year. So far the only temp fix for them has been to have Progressive limit the travel of the shock.

Thats too funny, and to think everyone bashed Jan Karpiel for being late on his deliveries and having a misaligned bikes. So now the list grows longer from when a frame is going to be delivered  So in recent months Foes, SC & Intense have been VERY late on occasion for delivering their goods.

Sounds like the quality control is going down. My friend got a 5.5 earlier this year and the thing was plain old bent. There was no damage so it was way out of alignment straight from the factory. How aren't they catching this before shipping?

"On occasion" and "in recent months" are the two key phrases in that statement that differentiate those companies from Karpiel... Whereas with Karpiel you would have said "every single frame" and "all the time" :p :D

One of the riders in question also purchased a small XVP that sucked. There were a couple of issues- like the links were hitting the frame, along with the rear tire. That frame was replaced by a 5.5.
On a frame as complex as an Intense, I believe that perfection is near impossible, but wanting a product that is 99% of the way there is fine. My M1 has some minor alignment issues. I still love the frame though b/c it took me over a year to motice it, and I have never noticed it while riding (I saw it while it was on my roof rack at night while sillohetted (sp?) by a flood light). But Intense is not the only one. I have also seen issues with a few Foes frames, but b/c that are single pivots, the issues are much harder to detect.

I know there will always be alignment issues. My balfa is a bit off(never noticed while riding). Difference is i payed half for my balfa what the intense would have cost me @ employee purchase. I just think when you're buying one of the most $$$ frames out there you should have a few less issues.

Not true, my Disco was early, and my Army was only 2 1/2 weeks late. Thats not bad. Sh*t look how long it took El Jefe to get his V10 especially since they said he'd have it right away.

Straight from the source: tuna salad. I guess it was spilled in the hydro forming machine and caused the frames to smell really bad after a day in the sun. They got the tuna out so production should be back up as we speak. :thumb:

GO! SEAHAWKS!
Talking to someone at Intense today to get info on long term M1 parts availability. He said they should have parts for quite a while. He said the reason they are out of seat stays is a bunch of people wanted to upgrade their stays with the replacable derailuer hanger version. Also said they have been focusing on the new VPP frames so they haven't really had time to get any stays built.
He said that they had begun to ship the M3 frames to some of the larger dealers and people that ordered at last Interbike. He said that the M3 is not a "hucking" frame, but none of the frames they have ever built were intended for that. He did say however that the M3 would be everything the M1 was as far as strength and durability goes, only pedal more effeciently. They are working on something to fill the "hucking" nitch called a VPLX (at least I think thats what he said).

So I go into my LBS today to pick up some things and what do they have on the wall.... medium M3 in bright red! They said that these are actually 150 spacing rear frames and that the production frames will be 135. They got 2 in and both are already spoken for as are 4 of the 6 they are supposed to receive in the next two weeks.
They guessed that the frame is probably about 1/2# heavier than the M1. We put the M3 frame up against my complete medium M1 and lining up the rear axle as best we could the headtube was in almost the exact same location and the BB looked about 1/2" - 1" higher than the M1. Looks like the "feel" of the cockpit should be the same, but with all of the sag it might feel pretty different?
Oh, almost forgot, they are expanding on the colors this(next?) year. I think they will have four "standard" colors and like 8 upcharge colors including ball-burnished (polished I guess?).

Since I ordered a large, I'll be waiting for mine for a while. I talked to the General Sales Manager @ Intense a few weeks ago. He stated that larges are always the last size run. They were just getting ready to send out "samples" to the Euro dealers in a few weeks, and when they do, they should finally get into production of medium M3s, then smalls, then finally larges.

Bottom like, he said I'd be waiting another 8-10 weeks. So if you've got a large on order, expect it between Thanksgiving and Xmas :mumble:

If a company could come up with a device to mount normal rear derailers to the axle (like a saint system) that'd save someone alot of $$$ from buying a new rear chainstay. I dunno how much Intense charges but I'm guessing between $300-600 for a complete rear chainstay.

The color system would be such a added benifit to getting a new frame. Hell, look at all the other high end custom frame makers and the things they let you choose with their frames.

The M3 will probably be just as nice as the M1 is. People will always grip about how weak they are etc....but I've yet to have a problem with my M1. Though I am not launching drops with it or anything, which is where on any frame problems will happen. If you abuse any frame it will break period. I just think they need to up their customer service a little bit and try to have things go quicker than they do. Seems to take a long time to get replacements. If it means hiring a couple more monkeys to do the job then they should think about it.

I dunno, I thought about the next bike to get a Turner or Santa Cruz as both seem to have their head in the right direction more with warrenty departments and customer service.

I totally here ya. I'm almost wondering if I should have gone with a V-10 instead.
