Machining disc brake mounts?

Hey everyone. Gonna be building my hardtail pretty quick and was doing some tool shopping as I needed a couple tools to assemble the entire bike myself. Anyway, found a disc mount machining tool on Park's website and they say it's essential for proper brake performance. I've NEVER heard of anyone machining their mounts, although it sounds logical. Is it more of a repair tool instead of something you do to a new frame? My frame is new, I shouldn't need to do this, right?

Not true, but this is a pro specific tool, like a BB tap. Occasionally, disk mounts are uneven, but it is not common.

If for some reason your brakes are totally out of alignment, then you should bring it to a shop which has this tool.

I agree... This is one of those things that you use if there is a problem, or if you're incredibly anal about prepping your super high end frame. Brake mounts are pretty good usually, but if there's a totally incurable squealing or, as sanjuro said, a misalignment, then you can look for someone with the tool.

It's sort of like facing/chaising your bb... sometimes you need to do it... sometimes you don't... It just depends what your working with...

(only reason why I read this thread is that I was thinking of machining a mount for my fox 40 so I could run a 185 rotor on it next week at work)
