Riding as a parent (at least for right now with a 6yo and 8yo) is sparse between working and spending time with the family. I was able to get out with another dad yesterday before work for a couple runs down a local favorite trail of mine. Stoked on the result and getting some time to rip bikes with another rad dad.

Also, in February I almost died after being hit head on by a car on my bike at 35mph. Can’t talk much about it still (lawyers) but I am alive and recovered.

This video is special to me since the other rider also was also hit along with me. So happy to be alive and riding again.

Enjoy!

Damn dude glad you survived, I know the feeling. 24 external and more internal stitches in my face and 3 days in a coma from a car hitting me on my bike when they crossed the center line. If you need anything I'm just a short drive away. just message me

Demo?

glad you're ok man. hope the lawyer does you right. when i was 13 i was skateboarding across the street and got hit by a hearse that ran a red light. i was more annoyed than hurt, being 13 and made of rubber. i saw it coming just in time and jumped and rolled up on the hood.

also, cool vid! it is, indeed, difficult getting out to ride w/young kids at home. i did a lot of my riding during that period by bagging work and riding during the week while they were at school.

Hey, thanks all!

Again, I am 95% recovered at this point - but here was my list of injuries from the accident, it was gnarly (I've got some bloody photos in case anyone wants to see):

-Major Concussion from being knocked out for 4-6 minutes (handful of symptoms: headache that lasted a couple months, vision issues, memory issues, trouble sleeping, trouble with verbal instructions over a couple steps, etc)
-Knee opened up, exposed bones/tendons/ligaments (picture a medial cut away). Had surgery after being airlifted to the hospital. My knee pad did its job! No broken bones etc (TLD Speed Knee with D30 FTW)
-Lots of glass shards in my right hand
-Torn left rotator cuff (we think I landed on the ground on it)
-Broken and subluxed sternum and ribs in the right side (that was incredibly terrible to deal with)
-Bruises/scrapes everywhere

I wish man, since there were 4 of us hit - spreading her insurance payout between us all isn't much. We're coming out alive, with new bikes, and hopefully reimbursed for all our medical bills eventually. No payout.

I hope Morgan & Morgan & Morgan get you millions of bucks
When my wife and kids were in their accident that's who we wound up with - my wife's cousin is an attorney and made a personal recommendation for someone they knew from law school, that just happened to be the firm he worked at.

Pain and suffering. Lack of consortium. My wife's concussion from her accident took years to recover from. She still has lingering symptoms and it's been over 6 years.

Also, since the 4 of you were not in a single vehicle, are you not each individual claims? Or does CA have fucky laws?

Technically a single accident. Unfortunately the 2 of us who were hurt the most really taxed her insurances max payout. Our lawyers said after all of the medical negotiations etc were going to be lucky to break even with our lives.

on the plus side, I’m REALLY enjoying my new bike, the We Are One Arrival 170.

Damn - That is quite a laundry list.
Glad you pulled through and can still ride a pretty high level.
Thank your stars for that, after my concussions, I never lost the headache, and never regained the ability to ride anything more than a mid level single black and down. I feel you on the broken sternum and ribs - that sucks bad, took me almost a year to be completely pain free with mine.

That is some nice riding by both of you - nicely done.

Good luck with Dewy, Cheatum and Howe.

Hey Avi,

its good to be back that’s for sure.

I remember watching the car buzz the rider in front of me and then saying “Oh Shiiiii*” and seeing a headlight come right at me. Woke up to EMTs trying to wake me up. I was conscious from there on and remember everything from when I woke up. 5 days after the accident I had a flash back of the black period, I must have just hit the ground because I remember trying to breath and couldn’t. So much pain in my chest. Then back to black.

thank goodness I had a full face on. One of the riders did not and he did a full thickness tear through his bottom lip after face planting on the hood. We were giving him crap about not wearing a full face in the parking lot before we left

yes, I got a heli ride.

Dam Brother, that is soo scary. I knew you had on a Full Face on,but I had to ask. I am glad the TLD‘s did there job as well. Tell us if you can, about the Family? When they saw Dad? The Children,Probally crying for their Dad and being Scared out of their mind no? You,having to have the stiff upper lip to not scare them. You have never been in that state,so to be Dad must have been very Hard on you. Us Men,we like to re assure everyone it is ok. Even if is not. We push away our own pain.

I am so glad you are ok.

nice photo in the AMR Ambulance. I lost count of how many people I helped load in to the helos after crashes on 9 and 35, and in the open space preserves, Always felt that if we could load you into the Bird still breathing those flight nurses would make damn sure you made it to the OR.
