...RAIN AND WIND EXPECTED THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY ACROSS THE SAN
FRANCISCO AND MONTEREY BAY AREAS..

A MAJOR CHANGE IN THE WEATHER PATTERN IS EXPECTED TO TAKE PLACE IN
THE EASTERN PACIFIC STARTING THURSDAY. STRONG ZONAL FLOW IS EXPECTED
TO BRING A SERIES OF PACIFIC STORMS INTO THE REGION...WITH THE
POTENTIAL FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL AND
STRONG WINDS.

THE FIRST IN A SERIES OF WEATHER SYSTEMS WILL BRING MODERATE TO
LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL TO THE SAN FRANCISCO AND MONTEREY BAY
AREAS THURSDAY INTO THURSDAY EVENING. WINDS WILL BE GUSTY WITH
THIS FIRST SYSTEM...POSSIBLY GUSTING TO 45 MPH ALONG THE COAST AND
IN THE MOUNTAINS.

A SECOND AND VERY POWERFUL STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO BRING HEAVY
RAIN AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS TO MUCH OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
CALIFORNIA FRIDAY INTO FRIDAY NIGHT. DAMAGING WINDS GUSTING TO AS
HIGH AS 60 MPH ARE POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY ALONG THE COAST AND IN
THE MOUNTAINS. DUE TO THE STRONG SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST LOW LEVEL
FLOW WITH THIS SECOND SYSTEM...THERE WILL LIKELY BE SIGNIFICANT
OROGRAPHIC ENHANCEMENT OF RAINFALL ACROSS SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST
FACING MOUNTAIN AND FOOTHILL LOCATIONS. THE POTENTIAL FOR VERY
HIGH RAINFALL RATES IN THE MOUNTAINS AND HILLS WILL BRING THE
POSSIBILITY OF FLOODING OR FLASH FLOODING.

A THIRD WEATHER SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO BRING ANOTHER THREAT OF
SIGNIFICANT RAIN SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. AT THIS TIME...IT
APPEARS THAT THIS SYSTEM WILL BE COLDER WITH LESS MOISTURE. SNOW
LEVELS COULD LOWER TO 2000 TO 3000 FEET...WITH SNOW POSSIBLE ON
THE BAY AREA HILLS.

PRELIMINARY RAINFALL TOTALS LOOK TO BE QUITE IMPRESSIVE FOR THE
ENTIRE EVENT FROM THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND. AT THIS
TIME...COASTAL AND VALLEY LOCATIONS CAN EXPECT BETWEEN 2 TO 5
INCHES OF RAIN...WITH MOUNTAINS RECEIVING BETWEEN 5 TO 10 INCHES
OF RAIN. THE SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS AND THE SANTA LUCIA MOUNTAINS
COULD RECEIVE IN EXCESS OF 10 INCHES OF RAIN BY THE END OF THE
WEEKEND. AGAIN...ALL THESE ARE PRELIMINARY NUMBERS AND CAN BE
EXPECTED TO CHANGE AS NEW INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.

THESE STRONG PACIFIC STORMS ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO BRING A LARGE
WESTERLY SWELL INTO THE COASTAL WATERS FRIDAY THROUGH
SUNDAY...BRINGING THE POTENTIAL FOR HIGH SURF CONDITIONS ACROSS
ALL WEST FACING BEACHES.

PLEASE STAY TUNED TO THE LATEST NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECASTS
AND STATEMENTS AS THIS WEATHER SITUATION DEVELOPS

I better put my seatbelt on.
Wanna bet that the Brookdale Lodge gets Flooded by the creek that runs through it?:busted:

I'm going to stock up at Costco tomorrow because I'm betting that all hell breaks loose up here on Skyline Blvd near Castle rock and we won't have power and the roads will be closed with downed trees.

I wonder how high the San Lorenzo will get?

Wierd. I thought my town was the one that got the worst weather avaliable. There must be some sort of a mistake. To quote bluebug, "I never knew just how much weather could suck until I came to Ithaca." :D

And then this storm is supposed to move inland, to the Tahoe area, and I've heard we're supposed to get 2-10 FEET of snow, depending on the elevation. Granted, with the weatherman's record this year, I'd still bet the under if I could. But then, my stepson, who works at Heavenly, will absolutely love the deep powpow, and I can only imagine how Mammoth/N*/Squaw/etc will fare.

Bring on the snow chains/spikes!!!

:D I was at heavenly 2 weeks ago. They got good powder one day, but it wasn't very deep. I came home with my board all scraped up from rocks.

I'm going to Mammoth next week!

They're pushing back the landing dates now for Tahoe. Damn if we don't need the snow right now too, Squaw would be kick ass on roller skates if we got even 4'.

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.

A WEAK SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH THE AREA THURSDAY NIGHT BRINGING SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW TO THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA... WHILE 1 TO 3 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE DOWN TO LAKE LEVEL BY FRIDAY MORNING. AFTER A BREAK IN THE HEAVIER PRECIPITATION...A STRONGER STORM WILL IMPACT THE AREA FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT. VERY HEAVY SNOW IS POSSIBLE THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING WITH SNOWFALL RATES OF SEVERAL INCHES PER HOUR. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS COULD REACH 2 TO 4 FEET ABOVE 7000 FEET...WITH 12 TO 24 INCHES AROUND LAKE LEVEL. SNOW COULD CHANGE TO A PERIOD OF RAIN BELOW 7000 FEET FOR LAKE TAHOE AND 7500 FEET FOR MONO COUNTY FRIDAY AFTERNOON BEFORE SNOW LEVELS FALL RAPIDLY FROM NORTH TO SOUTH FRIDAY NIGHT.

IN ADDITION...GUSTY WINDS WILL INCREASE ON THURSDAY...AND ARE FORECAST TO BECOME UNUSUALLY STRONG FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT. WIND GUSTS OVER THE RIDGES WILL PEAK AT OVER 100 MPH...WHILE GUSTS IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS MAY REACH 50 MPH OR MORE. BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY AT MANY OF THE PASSES FROM LAKE TAHOE SOUTH TO MONO COUNTY FRIDAY NIGHT...WITH A PERIOD OF BLIZZARD CONDITIONS POSSIBLY REACHING LOWER ELEVATIONS AS WELL FRIDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY.
So what I think that says is that we're getting a faux blizzard with a lot of wind. How this is any different from any other storm in Tahoe is beyond me.

I am really thinking about going down to the local news channel and punching the weather man in his fruity mouth. He "staked his reputation" on the fact this would be the "storm of the decade" for the Tahoe/Reno area. If you're gonna stake your reputation then you might want to anticipate a whoopin should your prediction not come to fruition.

I feel like someone just told me Santa wasn't real...

They stripped me of my weather control ability after that whole Katrina thing. Something about shocking abuses of power...

Do it at full speed.

Those things corner like a dream.
The nice thing about driving a Hummer in the snow is that I still drive the same speed when it is dry and still have the same handling and braking characteristics. I should just drive my rear-wheel Mustang with slicks.

BTW, I grew up in New York, went to school in Buffalo, and lived in New England. Do you think I need advice about driving in the snow from someone from Florida?

Well, I'm looking out my front window, and we're getting rained on immensely. Can't see the mountains/Heavenly because of the clouds, so I'm thinking they're getting a good dose of the fresh powpow as I type.

The wife is all worried, since we have to work this weekend and she can't stand driving in the snow, although we'll be carpooling and I'll be driving. Guess her paranoia over-rides my calmness to the weather..............

Woke up with no power.

My car had several small branches on it and one large one blocking it.

It wasn't very thick (6 inches diameter) but it was really long and a jeep was parked over the top of it.

So I decided to drive over it. I pressed the lift button, my car
rose 1.5 inches and I drove right over it.

I have never been so proud of my Subaru.

What a bunch of fags!

I rode today in a full rain suit. I was passing broken down buses and stuck cars.

The biggest problem was the train broke down for a half hour. Only my bike worked.
