I run Mallets on my Gemini and love them but the only shoe i have that "mates" up well with them are Sidi Dominator4's.I have a pair of Sidi Tennis shoe type and a pair of C'dale tennis shoe style but I can't get them to work. The only way I can see gettin them to work is to butcher the crap out of them. The claeat mount is to recessed and the sole hits the body of the pedal before the cleat can engage. The problem with the Dominators is they just do not offer enough side foot protection for me.I have some pretty nasty bruises on the outside of my right foot from clippin a rock or two.Anybody running mallets, what shoe are you using? Thanks

Use the spacers that crank bros included. I use these on my shimano DH shoes and they work perfectly. They actually work without, but i just prefer how it feels with. Also, make sure you grind down around the cleat recess, this will help. N

o need to burtcher, just go slow with a dremel grinder.

i bought my mallets used and I don't remember getting any shims or spacers with them. Just yesterday I took the dremel to my shoes (crappy old shimano shoes so I don't care anyways) and removed almost all the tread on either side of the cleats. They engage and disengage 10x better now.

Tried the shim's but still not working.May just be that the shoes i have, have extra thick soles? With the cleats shimed the sole is hitting pedal body quite a bit before the cleat can even get close to engaging.
Fraser,is the Shimano shoes you are talking about the tennis shoe type?
Thanks

It may just be the deep sole. I used to run Specialized shoes with one shim under each and they were golden. I still haven't put them back on my DH bike yet.

I am using the shimano sh-mp56. It is the shimano "downhill" shoe. Very comfortable and very reasonably priced. Good stuff sole for pedaling but grippy enough to get off and hike if you must. It has great protection for thr top of your foot as well with a padded lace cover.

You can see it below

email crankbros and i am sure they will send you some spacers, they are not for sale seperately on their site (every other part is).

Where did you trim material? Infront and behind or the sides? I've had trouble with those shoes and pedals and I'd like to continue to use them in certain situations. I've had all three shims under each cleat and still had trouble getting in/out. Plus, the cleat sticks out further than the sole and makes walking on rocks tricky.

I'm using Performance shoes, made by Lake. For $75, I've been pretty impressed. I forget which model, but I want to say Durango.

I dremeled material from both sides of the cleat recess. The spacers do not seem to make the pedal float. I am not sure what you did, but with 2 spacers my cleats are just slightly below the edge of the shoe giving it a much more solid engagement feel.
