I'll have a lot of gear (racing XC and DH) and with all the talk of the bike stealing issues at Whistler I was looking for info on bike storage at Mammoth. Can you usually get your bikes into the rooms or condos without problems at the "mammoth mountiain inn"? Do they have some type of secure storage? How about the "new village"? How far is it from the race? Any info appreciated.

Thanks

I dunno about those places, but last month I was at Mammoth and we rented a condo in town. There were no problems getting the bikes into the condo, but it was a couple minutes by car to the base of the mountain - couldn't ride from the room to the slopes. While I was there, people were leaving their $5000+ DH rigs just sitting around while they went to get lunch or whatever, it was real laid back (not that I was doing that), but I'm sure things could change for the Nationals.

Mammoth is very little more than a vacation town for skiers, fly fishers, and hiker types. Therefore there is more lodging than you could possibly wish for. The mammoth mountain inn is one of the few I haven't stayed in but there are plenty of other hotels, condo rentals etc. I work down there about every other month and stay at a place called the Royal Pines. They have big rooms and are pretty close to the mountain.

I'm sleeping in a van in the parking lot. Bikes are allowed inside.

Oh yeah, don't forget..........Mammoth is a beautiful area in the eastern sierras.......with a lot of really cool places to camp, hit hot springs etc.
Word, the eastern Sierras are amazing in the summer, and you're right on the doorstep of Yosemite.

The new Village is about 4 miles away according to 800-Mammoth and there is a free shuttle that runs up to the main lodge. There are 2 separate base areas and you want the main lodge area, not the Canyon Lodge.

I never had a problem with taking bikes in at the Mammoth Inn a couple of years ago.
As far as the Village they are all new, luxury condos (expensive). Go for a condo or hotel in town or at the Inn.
