So, I have a 2003 Manitou Sherman Firefly (used by previous owner, new to me), and I've noticed that the stanchions always have a small film of oil on them after rides (most noticable by the dirt rings that form). Anyways, called Manitou up and the tech guy tells me that "Manitou's just have the 'wet' look." So, is this absolute BS and my seals need changed??? Or is the guy serious? Seems to me that oil will need changing more frequently. Hmm...

BTW, I used to ride a Marzocchi Jr. T, so and NEVER had any reason to think that oil got through those seals.

What gives?

I think you would know if the seals were leaking, the film on the stanchions is from lubrication in the seals, I believe.

that's why we drink it here
If it is leaking too much oil you'll notice a little stream of it down the side of the fork. I've had 3 marzocchi forks now and the dirt rings you speak of have occured on all of them.
