Some ghetto in Houston

Everyone knows that dual-crown forks offer superior performance for the most aggressive riders, but until now, the price has been prohibitive. Enter the Stance - a new line from Manitou that delivers Sherman-style performance at an amazing price.

You get a whopping 170mm of travel, black 32mm stanchions, a new Reverse-Arch casting, and TPC Plus damping; plus Evil Genius seals for longevity.

1 1/8" threadless steerer tube fits most modern mountain bikes. Fork features a 74mm post-mount disc brake mount.
Travel: 170mm
Weight: claimed 7.2 lbs
Spring: Coil; with air assist
Adjustments: preload, rebound
Stanchion Tubes: 32mm, chromoly

Any thoughts?

they should have had a 7" tpc+ fork last year, but this is better than never, it's hella cheap too. If it's constructed decently, this line will be very sucessfull.

$449 for QR, $499 for 20mm

That's what I wasn't sure about. Chromoly would make the fork quite heavy. I guess they could do it 888 style and make thin chromoly stanchions without much weight penalty, but who knows. They look sweet, though.

I don't want to make wild assumptions... but...
Oh, and I'd guess alu stanchions, steel stanchions would be stupidly heavy for a dual crown fork.
The stanchions are cromo. I have one here. Feels pretty good and is not too heavy. Nice looking fork for the money.

That's damned cool. It's what the Jr. T should have been...

Is this basically just a Slider+ with TPC+ damping instead of SPV?

I'm thinking of pick up this fork before next spring. Looking around for more info. So far the comments seem positive. Anyone have some pics?

I've seen the ones on the manitou website. I was wondering if there was some pics of it on a bike and maybe a review?

It's mounted on the Iron Horse Yakuza Kumicho. If you search for it, you'll see pics. For a review, well, you're SOL. Although, the damping is the same TPC+ that's been a favorite of a lot of us for years (including the original dorado). Seals are the same Evil Genius seals, too. Really, the only unknowns with the fork are chassis durability (I'd be willing to wager the $500 cost of the fork that it'll be just fine, seeing how similar it is to the Slider and having cromo stanchions) and the bushing performance (I'd also be willing to bet it's on par with the Shermans, which is fine for me, but others have killed them). There's also the new air preload assist, which shouldn't present any problems (but you never know).

It's brand new, so we really have nothing to go by yet, especially as far as meaningful feedback-a few months' riding, minimum-goes.

I was looking at the manitou site and i was looking at the Stance Static and it said that it has NO brake bosses, does it accept disks?
Nope, no brakes at all. Manitou wants you fast, so they make it impossible to attach any type of brake whatsoever.

Canada EH !
Might be awhile until the STANCE line of forks are widely available, Manitou screwed up with some internal parts " wrong size spacers" which could cause the bottom of the lower crown to come in contact with your tire !

Replacement spacers have been sent out to all distributors who are now in the process of replacing the spacers etc. Problem is that some OEM forks are already at some bike mfgs and they will also need to fixed etc.

Could take a month or more to get this sorted out, too bad I wanted to get a Stance Static ASAP.

I was wondering that. I was looking at it and it looked like before it bottomed the lower crown would hit the tire. Damn. I wanted to get a Kingpin ASAP. Oh well i'll see whats happening.
