bizutch i think that you forget the oil degrades with time and needs to be replaced occasionally (like every year or so). the same goes for brakes and most any product that requires oil to work properly.
Yup. Which is why I sell my fork at years end with fresh oil in it so the buyer doesn't hate me.

One single oil change after initial break in will typically do you for 1 full season of riding as it gets all the tiny little metal shavings out of the system.

it's kind of shocking (har har) that you all have become so accustomed to jacked up prices that $500 for a fork sounds cheap.

no matter what your fork of choice is.
if you ride ALOT like we do when we get into our riding season.
you'll need to change your oil once a month or so.
even that often, it'll come out dirtier than you'd expect.

seal life is greatly lengthened.
the fork works at it's optimum.
and it's the easiest thing to do to get the most out of the $$$ you spend for your fork.

and you're right about brakes too.
dirt impedes heat dissapation.
completely purge it at least once or twice a year.

Dhbuilder I know you ride a lot - did you count the days riding at Windrock last year? Should be able to get a couple of days myself again this year hopefully opening weekend.

Back on topic will Manitou offer any upgrades from 06 to 07 internals? If so that could make the 06 an even better deal.
