Marzocchi Rocks!

We just got a packet from marzocchi in the mail today, and in mentions their new trade-in program.

If you have a Z1, Z3, Z3.5, or Z5 fork you can trade it in on a new DJ1, DJ3, or Z1FR.

It says the dealer will be invoiced for the balance difference on the forks, so I'm not sure if the dealer can pass along marzocchi's pricing, of if they'll be marking it up, but let me tell you, the prices on the DJ1/DJ3/Z1FR are DIRT CHEAP. Waaaaaaaaaay below normal dealer wholesale price.

What kind of trade ins are they offering for those older forks. What are the terms & limits (in terms of age of the forks)?

Hmm... that sounds kind of odd considering that Zocchi is "trading" for older Z models.

well, they aren't trading straight over, your getting a majorly discounted price on the new forks though. It says that it is available on any forks, even those that "show any sign of fatigue, damage, impacts, cracking, creaking, leaking, etc."

So, you just show up at a Zocchi dealer with an old creaky Z1 and say, "here is my old Z1. Could you bump down the price for the 'trade-in'?"

Is that how it works? Do they offer some sort of discount for the fork? Like, Z1 is a flat 100 off, Z2 is a flat 75 off, or is it up to the shop to figure that out?

Sounds like a cool incentive.

I know you're probably not at liberty to say... but does it seem like a good deal?

I'm guessing, the models mentioned are all 5" forks, aren't they (depending on year, of course), so it seems to make sense that they'll upgrade a 5" fork to something beefier. How much travel does the Z2 have?

Yes, like I said, I'm not sure if dealers are supposed to mark this up or not. Either way, it's a pretty significant cut.

I've got an '02 DJ1 with 5", wouldn't this also fit the bill?

I traded my Z.3 back in 2003 for a '03 Dirt Jumper III for $125. I mentioned that I needed a 20mm and that the DJer III wasn't 20mm, so they swapped the lowers from a DJer II and lowered it to 4" at my request for no additional charge.

They tried to get me to trade in my 2001 Shiver for a 888R but I passed.

The trade in program covers Z1, Z3, Z3.5 (That was an OEM Model), and Z5 models with 30mm stanchions. Basically you or your shop can contact us and use your old fork towards a significant discount on a new DJ or Z1 series fork. This is separate from our regular crash replacement program.

Think of it as what the car dealers call a Loyalty Bonus...

I guess I'm not as loyal then since I've got a 2002 DJ1, a 2002 Super T, a Z150 on my bikes right now and prior to that I had a 2000 Monster, a 1999 Atom 80, a 1999 Jr T and a 1998 Super Fly.

How much more loyal can I be?

I've always been afraid of these 30mm stanchions on my 5" DJ1, isn't this part of the reason for the program? To get riders on safer 5" SC Marz forks?

The level of riding has gone up... So this our way getting people on equipment that is better suited to the type of riding they are doing.

I traded my 03 DJ2 in for an 04 Z.1 FR ETA with 20mm. Cost me $300. Better than the 450 at most places i guess. I had a bent steerer (don't ask) and was better off upgrading than just fixing it.

I fully agree which is why I don't understand why the 5" DJ1 series fork is not included in the program. I want to be on better equipment.

Personally for $150 off I would have bought a used one for $150 - $200. But that’s just me; I don’t give a F’ about if stuff is new… as long as it works! And the way I break things, I can’t afford to buy new (reference my signature below – 5 rides on a used boxer before I killed it)

I love my '00 Z1, easy to work on, just unbolt the stanchions and work on it away from the bike! With my old bike I put one on and then would just switch out lowers between my 4" and 5"(heavy springs) travel version - depending on the riding.

When the 5" got destroyed (moving incident) I just bought a new one and undid the lowers... didn't have to mess with my bars or headset, no cutting, just swap over the brakes and go!!!

Hell if they are only offering $150 or less for any of the older clamp style... PM me first :thumb:

As long as you are patient, it can pay off... my replacement one was $200 and included the wheel.

Low-b, the 98 Z1 can be upgraded.

Biggins, depends on what model forks you have. Crash replacements and upgrades can be done though your local bike shop.

Ok, here are the trade in prices:

$299 DJ1
$175 DJ3
$333 Z1FR

If your dealer's cool, they can work with those prices a bit

Too bad Norco (the marz distributor in canada) won't honour this great offer...I tried and can downgrade my z1 fr to a heavy crappy damped dj2 for half the price of a dj...yeah...

And I am pretty sure is it ALL 5" 30mm stanchion z1 and dj series forks.

Sort of. Read my post above. This callback has been offered for quite some time actually. But Norco refuses to honour it to its fullest.

Hey Brian, I was just told the other day on the phone by one of your fellow employees that the upgrades could only be done for forks that are either too old to repair or they are broken and cannot be fixed. What's the word this week?
