Mavic UST Rims

Does anyone know if mavic plan on releasing a new rim to replace the EX823? It seems that mavic have realised that its a crap rim and needs to be stronger in the widening of the 05 deemax, so i would expect them to release a similar rim in 32 or 36.

the 05version of the 823's are stronger, its a bit of a different design. The 32 hole 823's arent' available untill march i believe. but if you want them in 36, they do have them. They do have the 04 version of the 823's in 32 hole only. That info is direct from mavic inside sales rep

tell you "inside sales rep" that the new 823's are NOT stronger if the customers can't receive and ride them.

They must be stronger since their listed on the Mavic site as about 80g heavier than the '04 version! There's no longer a weight savings by running the x823 tubeless vs the 721 with Stan's strips tubeless and with the 721 you don't need special tools to build the wheels up.

Perhaps - but from my experience UST rims are better at holding your tire on and you get less burping from running UST rims.

I never had a tire burp while running UST rims and UST tires. Then this summer I tried 521's with UST tires and Stan but was constantly burping the rear tire - which made a freaking mess by coating my rotor with stans :dead: so I went back to tubes

Maybe that was just some anal seepage.

Ha, that is an actual side effect from some prescription med. they are advertising on TV.
It reminds me of the old one about:
Hey, take this, it will grow hair back on your bald azz head, so the ladies will love it.
Side Effect: Your pecker will stop working

Life is cruel. :blah:

Try running Stan's strips with Maxxis' new UST tires. I never run sealant or burp the tires. Some times on a new install I might need to add a small amount of sealant to fill a small hole from production. But with the new UST tires (2.5" DHF, DJF and Highroller) the casing doesn't require sealant like non-UST tires do.

It's the goo mess that I'm not willing to deal with as far as tubeless goes. The idea of running UST tires and Stan's strips works though. I really like that idea :)

As far as the UST rims I wanna say they do hold the tire better and you don't get as much or often of burping, but also you need to still run decent pressure in the tires or you're going to burp/dent the rim anyways.

I'm still waiting a little bit. I'm getting antsy though to switch to tubeless. I just don't like the idea of goo coating my frame, brakes, behind etc......

I just ordered a rim and they sent me an 04". My LBS called Mavic to complain and they said that the 05' model will be a 4 month wait. I'll stick with the 04' and run high presure w/ stans.

That's what is going around. Go-ride got a bunch of 04's that they are selling dirt cheap (I think it was $45? per rim) because they wanted to newer design and not the older one.

I am still tempted to get a pair and get some hubs, build it up, and just run higher pressures in them with stan's. At $45 each that ain't too bad.

the '05s are available, just not in 32 hole yet. that will be another month or 2. And as for the weight difference, this year they actually list the weight with the eyelet inserts, last year I'm pretty sure they didn't list them in the claimed weight. But I could be wrong. The rim is also a little different shape than last years, for added strength.

That clears things up about the wait. I needed a 32 hole Rim to lace to a Rohloff hub but I'm not waiting 2 months.
