So rumor has it that Maxxis is doing away with the orange stripe. Has anyone heard this? When will we be able to get 60D wtih no orange stripe? Anyone know the scoop?

There was never an orange stripe on the soft compound tires. Just on the 60a.

i hated that orange strip. It was freekin ugly.

I agree. It shouldn't matter, but it bugs the **** out of me and has kept me from running Maxxis tires.

It is kinda like pinstripes on cars, I absolutely HATE them. :eviltongu

At least I can take the pinstripes off.

Kanter, I e-mailed Maxxis with the same question to try to find out if the rumor was true. I was asking specifically about 24" 60d tires. Here's their response:

Maxxis has begun to phase out the orange stripe on our tires.
Unfortunately the 24" High Roller will still have it for next year. The only
products that won't have it will be brand new 2005 products such as the
Advantage, our Folding Freeride tires, UST tires.

Tires that are in our current catalog(2004) will still have the orange
stripe through next year except on our race compound tires.

Sorry about that.

Best Regards,

Maxxis International, Bike Division

Hope this helps.

will maxxis make tires without a orange stripe for freeriding?

They are DCing the orange stripe on ALL tires. I talked to Maxxis and they are no longer making the orange stripe on any tires. They still have a bunch of tires with the orange stripe so it will be awhile till we dont see the orange stripe on the 60D tires.

I'll give me 2 cents since I got a giant stash of Maxxis tires.

60D and 50D tires had orange stripe, the slow reezay and super tacky didn't have them.

Only the 50D and sometimes the 60D went on sale cheap (like $20) but you'd never find the other compounds cheap as they were race compounds.

So now my bike has a orange stripe, and a all black. I don't care what the tire looks like as long as it works, but YES, it's nice to have all orange, all black whatever.

you should see my basement. there's at least 20 tires down there
Wait until you get a tire sponsor. Once you can afford to run new tires at every race, you end up with stacks of tires in the basement.
I met I have 30-40 easy.

You got it right on that, I've got 10 sets of kenda's DH tires on the way, 2 sets of new Maxxis roads, about 10 new DH/XC/4X tires stashed up. Hopefully with the Kenda ones I won't be dumping sets of tires into the dumpter after a race trip, with all the neighbors shaking there heads.

Actually the real sign you have a problem is when you keep tires that your proud or tosting, I've have one Tioga DH Proto tire from 98, that feel apart after one run at the 7 Springs National, and that was not a tough course on tires.....can you say engineer not doing thier homework........

It's a tire who cares? Why would you not run a tire because of a 1/4 inch wide stripe around the outside of the tire that gets covered in mud anyway. it's not like you can see the stripe while riding.
