I've been using a Stans tubless system for the last 4 years or so and although it has been more reliable than tubes I've about had it. I haven't had a tire go flat for a very long time but about once a week I find myself with a flat tire and air bubbling out of the spoke eyelets. The cheesy lightweight tires I use hold air even though they are not designed to but the rimstrips can not seal air from the rim. I've replace 3 strips in the past 6 months but the real solution just seems to be to take the tire off and re-seat the strip and try again. I've replaced the rim tape and even the rim at one point (for other reasons).

Out of frustration I decided to try the Maxxis rim strips. Well I'm pretty confident they will hold air just fine, in fact I couldn't burb the system at just a few PSI. the problem is it took every ounce of strength I had to get the tire on and I'm not sure I will be able to get it off without destroying the tire or rim. There is absolutely no way I would be able to drop a tube in if I got a flat on the trail, am I missing something?

Pinch the tire into the very middle of the rim cavity, then it'll go on much easier. Also, use spit or some soapy water to lube up the rim strip edges. Rubber on rubber doesn't slide so well.
