So, EVERY single pro at Durango ran the Maxxis minion front, high roller rear. What's up with this monopoly?

tires of mass(go sox) destruction?bizutch said:because Maxxis is secretly funded by Saddam Hussein and have a limitless budget that allows them to throw tires at anyone who qualifies for Pro Class?
I thought it was a minion front? Almost everyone on the podium had that combo. Even guys who were sponsored by wtb, michelin, and kenda...Acadian said:Minnaar had a HR front AND rear
Werd, yer correct-a -mundo. High rolla front and rear, bling bling. So fast yo.Acadian said:Minnaar had a HR front AND rear
I'm using the Maxxis F Minion 2.5 up front and a 2.5 High Roller in the back. Tubeless. It's pretty sweet!!Misfitslacker said:its the best tire combo imo then ride dual larson TT's for hard fast cond. or just djing...maxxis tires are the SH!T

nope...Minnaar had HR front and rear on race day. I have pics that show it, but unfortunately can't share them. He might of practiced or qualified with a Minion at one point, but he had HR's on race day.bpatterson6 said:I'm using the Maxxis F Minion 2.5 up front and a 2.5 High Roller in the back. Tubeless. Nope, you got it backwards. I'm pretty darn sure that the High Roller came first.JohnnyBoyDH said:Isn't the Highroller really just a knock off of the Comp 16 when you think about it...Very similar in design. I think both work well. I just wish Maxxis made the 2.35 versions with the 2 ply casing for those times when you need a smaller rear tire.
Nope. The Factory Michelin guys have been running the Comp 16's before Maxxis was even in the DH scene. The Comp 16's have been around since '97-'98 (only in 2.2" though). You had to have a connection to the infamous Yellow Michelin Truck at the World Cups to get them (or to get the factory cut ones from that little french dude with the coolest tire trimming tool out there). I know cause my slow ass couldn't get them. I used to pimp my buddies old used ones when he was done with them.dexterq20 said:Nope, you got it backwards. Ha ha, not all the time. You would be surprised what a sharpie marker can do come race time. I see it less now as most companies make excellent products, but you still see some blacked out stuff on some bikes.Jeremy R said:Pros run what their sponsors give them.
Man I am into this thread eh? LOL You have to remember that the tires are the only thing connecting you to the ground. That little 2.5" of rubber has alot to deal with. I think tire choice can make a huge difference in racing. i mean the rider obviously makes the biggest difference but the equipment these days accounts for more than 10%.Scrub said:Hey, just run what you brung....or can afford.
I think the rider has more input on the bikes control/feel than the tires. But tire selection is a part of the whole package of tuning for each course.
90% rider/10%equipment
Yeah, back in day, everybody sharpied over the Michelin, because everybodies else's tire compound was pure crap. The funny thing is that Michelin still uses the same compound, and it still kicks azz to this day.JohnnyBoyDH said:Ha ha, not all the time. dhrace507 said:First of all, the comp 16 came first, it was not sold to the general public first, but it came first. About all the pro's using the maxxis tires, that's crap. Half use something else. About all the podium pro's using maxxis, Panozzo uses Intense and Dustin Adams uses Michelin. Get your facts straight people.

i agree. but maybee a little bit more than 10%. more like 15-20% lol. its cause of this new equipment that it takes a little less skill to get over some obsticals. now im not saying that the pros have no skill im just saying cause of this we have to make the coarses alot harder and sometimes doesnt always work that way. ohh well. both tires are good. go with weight and width when you choose which ones to buy.90% rider/10%equipment
That's funny as that was who I was talking about. I remember at Mont Ste Anne the Cannondale tech was going to throw out some used blacked out IRC tires but gave them to us instead cause we had nothing good...lolbizutch said:The whole sharpie over the tire thing originated with Cannondale. Their riders were sponsored by Hutchinson. It was all over their jerseys and stuff.
same goes with women.me89 said:......go with weight and width when you choose which ones to buy.
