Think my parents are letting me pick out my x-mas present, providing it's not to expensive. Right now i have atomic labratories that are literely falling apart at the seams, so new wheels it is. I'll keep my hubs, ringle, so I was curious as to ho much i'll be looking at for a wheel and some decent spokes, or if i'll be ahead to get the whole wheelset. As for wheels i'm looking at, i'd like some 729s or mag30s, but i'm always open for new options. If those end up to expensive(and the probably will) i was thinking jsut rhyno lite XLs. Any help appreciatied, and they will go on an 03 IH SGS. Thanks.

also, why an i up at 5:20?

I've had a few rims (including the Trailpimps and Rhynolite XL's) and my favorite rim is the Mavic EX721 (aka Mavic 521).
The EX721 is super strong and not too heavy.
It's lighter than the EX729 and a lot lighter than the Mag 30.

If you already have the Ringle hubs, buy rims, spokes, nipples and find a decent wheelbuilder.
My handbuilt wheels were always much better and lasted much longer than the complete wheelsets I've had.

I'm from Europe so can't help you with prices, but check Go-ride.com, they give free spokes with each rim you buy.

Thanks for the help. I'm not a big weight nazi, so dont really have to worry about that. His a price list from go-ride:

Mag30 - $85
721 - $45/57 (silver/cd), donno what this means?
729 - $69
Rhyno Lite XL - $40

So my question is does the extra money for the mag30 and 729 worth it for the strength, and whats the difference between the 2 type of 721s?

The most expensive 721 is hard anodized. It is for sure nicer looking...but I've heard several people claim it also strenghten the rim. I don't know for sure though.

If you do not need the beef of the Mag 30, go with the Sun MTX rims.
They are lighter and cheaper than the Mags, and are way stronger than the Rhyno lite XLs and/or singletracks.

Hard anodized increases scratch resistance, but actually decreases fatigue life. No effect on yield strength.

You're paying for your wheels to be pretty, nothing more.

Good to know...thanks ohio! :thumb:

I always suspected the "increased strength" claim to be BS... :p
