Melanie McQuaid is finding her form at the right time of the year and grabbed the win at the XTERRA USA Championships in Ogden, Utah after recently winning the XTERRA Canada Champs.

Melanie started her day at the Snowbasin Resort with a great swim and only swim specialist Christine Jeffrey beat her out of the water. More importantly though, her biggest competitors had lost some serious time during the swim.

Just like Conrad had done in the men's race, Melanie put the hammer down on the bike and recorded the fastest bike split in the women's field aboard her Specialized Era 26er. By the time she reached T2, her lead over Shonny Vanlandingham was almost 4 minutes and Scot Lesley Paterson was another 3 minutes behind the American.

The fast running Paterson though kept Melanie honest and forced her to give it all during the run. Paterson had passed Vanlandingham for second place and was closing in on Melanie, but in the end the bubbly Canadian still had over 45 seconds in hand when she crossed the line victorious and clearly happy with her performance.

"I’ve gotten the ones I wanted – the XTERRA European Championship in Italy, the XTERRA Canada Championship, this one, and now I want Worlds," said Melanie. "I just need to get back to work and see what I got in a month from now."
