Lately I have been entertaining my self while working from home Messing with scammers.

is any one else messing with them ?

usually starts with some "Chick" start chatting with me on Words with friends and wanting to go over to google hangouts.

so I Have a Raspberry Pi , that is on an isolated subnet , made a Bogus Gmail account and chat with them there at some point they will want a Picture , I usually grab some picture off of the internet for me and it obvious they do the same , although usually they grab some porn actress. ( which iseasily found on a reverse google image search ) Of course it plays out they ask for $$ to pay there wirelss bill so they can keep chatting , or help pay for an airline ticket to come see you, had one trying a variant of the Nigerian prince scam ( i didn't know they still tried that one ) even had one out right ask for my login credentials to my ATT wireless account.

of course I am asking them all sort of dumb , rude and irrelevant questions. I've even had 1 swear up and down she is not a scammer even asking for $$$ 3 times .

Not a scammer, but I did mess with someone far away.

Kept receiving notice of uber eat delivery or some other service like that on my personal email.

Got tired of it cause this fat slob kept eating his crappy food on a regular basis. So I was able to reset his account since it was registered under my email. In the account his credit card was in memory (could see last 4 digits) So was his cell phone. So I texted him so he would update his account to put in in good email and not mine. Bro was all defensive and though I was effin' with him.

At one point he texted me that I was a gay stalker and that he would report me. So I built an order for a 10 peoples burger party pack and before pressing the order button I screened shot the order and sent it to him, all with his credit card on screen. He was more docile after that and apologetic.

Years ago I got an email from a student at my Alma Mater with his resume and a request for a job. I am an engineer, he was getting a degree in marketing. I replied to him asking how he got my email and why he thought I would have anything to with marketing. He said he worked at the Alumni office and just searched or anyone in my zipcode and didn't care what my background was.

I suggesting he stop what he was doing as it was a breach of privacy policies. He then basically told me to fuck off. I replied that I liked his energy, made some homo-erotic suggestion and asked him if he wanted to join a cult I was in. He was clearly weirded out but was dumb enough to keep responding. I went into great detail about the make believe cult. The trick up my sleeve was that the brother of a good friend was still a student at the college.

I pretended that I was going to make a trip back to school to see him. My friends brother started leaving notes on his front door signed with my name and some made up Cult-Church letter head. And in a stroke of genius, my friend's brother spotted the kid at a bar, and wrote "The Church Of Jimbo loves Adam Godlove" on the urinal wall. Supposedly the next time that kid came out of the bathroom he turned white, was sweating profusely and ran out of the place.

I love this shit!

Years back this solar company was calling me like 5 times a day every day. I kept telling them I didnt own a home and didnt want solar. They always said they would remove me from the list. This literally went on for months, so one day I had had enough and picked a house of zillow that was an obvious flip with no one living in it and sent them to it. Dude drove from los angles to san diego in the rain, it took him 3 hours each way. He had called and asked questions and everything. When he got there he called and was fucking pissed about his time. I informed him I didnt care because of all my time wasted and maybe they will stop calling me. The next day the chick that had called me called again to give me a hard time. So I found the managers name and phone number. I gave her a call, she knew who I was right away. I told her the score and threatened I would keep doing it if they keep calling me. She said it would take a few days. Then they never called again.

I like the Indian guys that always call with the heavy accent "hello my name is robert from texas, I see you have a virus on your computer" I play along as long as possible and pretend to do the computer stuff. It always ends when they ask me what I see on the computer screen and I tell them "a guy in mumbai scamming me". Maybe I should change this one up and pretend to think he is Pakistani or Dalit. But thats probably not right.

Got some real life gypsys that scammed my dad. Dude waited around until he got my dad alone and convinced him to accept a hot load of asphalt to fix our little parking lot so my sister with a kid wouldnt step in a puddle. We were fighting at time so I was at home. My sister calls me and says that this didnt feel right. So I come down and sure enough they fucked our shit all up. It was fine asphalt and now it had stuff meant for the bottom layer pushed around on top with giant chunks of gravel in it. Mashed like a ramp up the fence with no transitions on the other spots. I was fucking pissed and refused to pay. Took like two hours to get rid of them. Its been 5-7 years now and it still looks awful and the puddle is still in the same spot.

Found out later there is no hot loads of asphalt like concrete. These guys and gals were from new york and had nice trucks and dressed strange. They were only around in the winter and scammed a bunch of people around here. So ive concluded they must be gypsys.

I have gotten the "grandpa its me" twice lately but i cant keep them on long enough to hear the pitch, they hang up first. Am i supposed to call back?

Just doing my civic duty.

had this one last week , who was chatting with me and another guy from my company , I told her we worked together for Internet security systems , and I was a Tracker, told her I could track down anybody anywhere once I had some sort of communication. she asked me what happened after I located them , I told her I would turn them over to the enforcement division and that is where my other buddy worked . meanwhile he told her her had gotten thrown out of the green berets for being to violent to prisoners and other crazy shit she asked me what happened to people once they were found by the enforcement division ? I told her I learned not to ask , but I had herd my Buddy had habit of making people disappear ! she deleted her conversations , her games and her account !

I remember Deyv telling of his trip to Viet Nam and getting scammed into staying in the wrong hotel.

I kind of had that on my mind when I was travelling to Nagoya via Tokyo. When I got off the airplane I was inline at the Tokyo Rail kiosk trying to navigate my way through the train system when a lady pulled me aside and tried to direct me towards another area. My instinct was that she was trying to scam me and I refused. She was polite but adamant, I continued to refuse. Eventually she seemed really offended and walked away. I felt pretty good about myself being fool-proof.

Turns out she was an employee of Tokyo Rail who was there to assist foreign passengers, and I pretty much told her to fuck off. Japan is probably the only place in the world where people aren't trying to scam you. So wherever you are nice Japanese lady, my apologies.

I weed out the scammers by answering the phone in spanish when I don't recognize the number. It's effective and leads to some awkward moments for the caller.

No kidding? I had something exactly the same, where someone had (accidentally?) entered my email in for their shitty food delivery service a couple-three months ago. I think I just set up a rule to automagically delete the emails, but maybe I should have a look at that again.

Now that I think of it, I also did an email reset on this Janet girl that was collecting Loblaws points. I gave 10,000 of her points to a charity. good/bad karma at the same time

I am pissed that so many fucking businesses won't validate your email before they start sending you their shit. As I have a very common family name in my little nation, I am bombarded by shitty emails from both sides of the pond. Last time it was some effing dude's metro pcs account due renewal. I changed his password to random shit and let it die.

I just checked my gmail account as I never use it and it often has "wrong" emails going to it.

Looks like the latest is some dumbass has signed up their Straight Talk wireless account to that email account, it lists their phone number, last four digits on the credit card and the shipping address for the original order.

Now to work out if I can cancel their phone account.

A good few years ago I had my FB and main Email account hacked, I was telling everyone I was in the UAE and was stuck in an airport, they created a Western Union account in my name and sent out requests for money to almost everyone in my lists.
My dad showed me his conversation with the scammers, he was having a great time telling "me" that I should have been more careful and something along the lines of It's time to cut you free. He loves toying with scammers.

Oh if people do use FB, don't use your main email address or one you use for membership at stores you frequent, many will upload your ph and email to FB for advertising purposes so you get targeted ads.
Use a different browser and set up an email just for FB.

A great story about this subject.
I read the whole thing, I’ve often asked “how do you feel about stealing from people to feed your kids, buy then a present”. Might be a little cruel of me. While they are scammers they are still human and rubes are gunna be rubes.

Listening to the podcast was awesome. There were multiple episodes, and even a follow up one years later. Hearing the voice of the scammers and the recorded conversations made for good radio.

ill bet it was good radio. I use to drive back and forth to college at night. It was a 8 hour drive and I would find this channel that played old radio shows. Lone Ranger and other stuff. It’s a real shame what’s happened to radio. I’ve also spent way too much of audio cds.

That’s still out there, it’s just internet based. My dad can’t ever get enough and it’s all he listens to...well that and OAN.

Haven't listened to terrestrial radio in years (except NPR). I don't miss the wacky DJs, knuckle dragging callers, dumb sound effects and horrible car dealership advertisements.

I do appreciate being able to dowload days worth of podcasts and audio books on my phone minutes before a long road trip.

Some dude just called my work laptop saying he was returning a call from this number. I have no idea what my laptops phone number is.

It might be my desk number and I have no idea what that is, either.

Some fucker accidentally (I presume) typoed their phone number when registering on some voter registration thing. I get automated text messages related to voting bullshit addressed to "Marcia". They get a fuck off reply and blocked.

during my unemployed months this last year i was getting a lot of scam job offers. all the calls were coming from NJ phone #'s. they used 2 companies and it would be a week of calls for one and then the next week the other. so after a bunch of no's from me i started to engage them. and i agreed to whatever the pay and beni's were. never got to the point where the scam would come into play, still can't figure out what the game was supposed to be since they really never asked for any specific personal info. so just to amuse myself, i started answering the calls pretending i was German. why, who knows. a buddy of mine can fake rant in German using random words and German sounding words so he was kinda my inspiration. I can't do it as well so I would use whatever words i knew with the lyrics from Ramstein's Du Hast song. i still laugh at the thought of this
