The DCR has presented their Draft Resource Management Plan. This is similar to last year's Trail Plan, but its more comprehensive and pertains to more than just the trail system.
The RMP says some great things about mountain biking. It says mountain biking does not cause any greater trail wear than hikers, and should be treated the same. It also definitively says that mountain biking is a legitimate recreational use in the Fells.
But despite all that, the new proposed changes are only slightly less restrictive than the current extremely restrictive rules.
We are currently in the middle of a public comment period. Please spread the word, and get as many people as you can to read the plan and comment. The DCR will incorporate public opinion into the final version of the plan.
The deadline is November 14th.
