what kinds of mineral oil can i use besides the shimano kind? its way too expensive.
can i use the magura oil?
if i look for mineral oil at drug store, is there a particular kind i should be looking for and/or not looking for?
i have 2.5-5wt motul fork oil. can i use that? it says it has anti-friction additives, and anti-foam, anti-corrosion, and a high viscosity index formula that protects and preserves seals while guarding against wear and tear.

I don't know about the shimano, but magura uses a mineral oil, like shimano, and I have read on the Magura web site that fork oil works fine for thier brakes. In fact, if you buy 'magura blood' (oil) and it's red, not green, it is re-packaged fork oil.

I've been running Golden Spectro Synthetic fork oil in my Maguras for a couple of years now, actually I have no dragging problems like I did when running Magura "Blood"

No reason for specifically synthetic fork oil, that's just what I run in my forks so that's what I had around.

What weight oil do you run in your Maguras?? are they disc or rim brakes?

Umm,I'd have to run out to the garage to check, but it's the oil specified for Showa MX forks, which is the lighter of the two grades of synthetic Golden Spectro.I can't recall the numbers but it's not rated like most oil,It's 85/125 or something like that, whatever,it's thin as piss, makes for a lighter lever feel.

*edit* cheap azz Magura Julies, post mount,so I can run 180mm discs front and rear, but I just got some gustav discs tonight so they'll be bigger tomorrow.Stop my lardbutt pretty damn good.
