Mixed components?

I'm building a trike. The drivetrain is pure mountain bike. Is it possible/advisable to mix components? eBay has a fair number of derailleurs, shifters and gear packages; I am considering using a SRAM shifter and derailleur with a Shimano megarange rear cassette.

Am I asking for trouble? I'm on rather a tight budget... I want to get this trike built with soon, with low-grade components if necessary, and upgrade components one at a time once it is riding.

No problems with mixing SRAM and Shimano derailleurs and cassettes. There can be problems mixing SRAM and Shimano derailleurs/shifters.

Thank you. I'm glad to hear that, since I really did wan to keep that megarange (I live in the foothills) but SRAM is closer to my price range :)

Depending on your price range, you can get a X.7 rear dr/front x front dr and shifters for about 80. The x7 is a great performing product for the money too.
