Good Morning!

We had a little snow here in central NC over the weekend.....nothing significant, just enough to cover everything with an inch or two and make the trails a muddy mess. Colin really enjoyed it---for about ten minutes, and then he was ready to head back inside. Seeing that riding was out of the question, I spent some hardcore couch time watching movies and football this weekend. I did, however manage to get the yard plugged and some rye grass thrown out, so hopefully things will start to green up here in a few weeks and all the neighbors can envy me.....:busted:

Offa work today, thanks MLK! Heading out to MASS MOCA in a few for some 'culture'!

Hit the borrowed road bike/trainer this morning - never listen to the Misfits 'Earth AD' live album while doing intervals...Danzig's between song comments made me laugh way too much: "Yeah, we gotta tune up, we hit it pretty hard....you keep it up and you're going to the hospital!". oh yeah!

Morning. At work today, as is the wife. Casinos and hospitals never close. Anywho...

Good weekend. Had a birthday party for my son on Sat.. Many cold tops were consumed and much fun was had. :thumb: Yesterday was a birthday party for my bro-in-law's wife. Again, many beers, lots of football and a lot of laughs.

I finally managed to make it to the LBS and pick up some tires for the DH bike and a new FF helmet taboot!! Some deals are just too good to pass up! :) Funny thing about the tires.... I got home from the LBS with them and looked in the mailbox and there was a sponsorship offer from Kenda. It's cool though, happy to support the LBS!

I gotta get me one of those:clapping:

Mornin monkeys! Just another fun filled day of class and studying for me. We didnt get anymore snow past the 5-6 inches thursday so it's just been ridiculously cold for no reason. Since I'm a fairweather rider, the bike collects dust for now....

Have a good'n monos.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll all be envious when you're out mowing grass in the middle of February.:busted:

It was bruttally cold here this weekend so I just hung out around the house. I have no desire to ride when the temps are in the 20s.

:imstupid:

I sowed rye grass.....not hay.

Of all turfgrasses used in the South, ryegrass probably has the highest maintenance requirement. Mowing, watering, fertilization and pest management needs of ryegrass are higher than for any southern turfgrass. Ryegrass has a rapid growth rate in the spring and requires twice weekly mowing at the taller heights - above 1 inch; mowing at 2 to 3 day intervals at heights between ½ and 1 inch and daily mowing at heights below ½ inch.

Ryegrass is the least drought tolerant of the southern turfgrasses and needs frequent watering in the spring and early summer. In many golf course situations, daily watering is not unusual on ryegrass greens and fairways. Even on lawns, ryegrass is the first grass to show symptoms of drought stress.

The few times I sow grass seed, I use conservation mix and let natural selection decide which grass wins. No fuss, no bother.

Wumpus....Google is an amazing thing, and copying/pasting the first thing you run into is fantastically amateur. I've been doing this for years, and have never experienced what you're trying to imply. I've no desire to try and explain this to you, but for sh*ts and giggles I'll give 'er a rip. I have bermuda grass already plugged in my yard---I overseed with rye in the Winter. I do not mow that sh*t at a height of 1/2 inch or whatever you copied was trying to say. If you're rely on experience--rather than Google, you would know that rye is meant to be kept long--heights of 4-5in.--in residential applications. I'm not running a golf course---which is what you apparently looked at and pasted up without even paying attention. Rye grass has heat tolerances up to 80 degrees and after that, it goes dormant. It's a great cold-weather grass that has a short time span here in the southern climate. Go read that last line you copy/pasted---it's the first grass to show drought stress. By April, the heat will start to retard its growth both length wise and in the broadness of the blade itself. It's a thin and wispy grass when used in overseeding applications and is basically used here to impart a deep green color to your lawn without overtaking any fescues or bermuda grasses that are already established. I've been doing this for years, and have never had to mow it even once before it goes dormant in the late Spring. I appreciate the attempt to make me look stupid, but in this case, you're just out of your league, here. Bottom line---green grass, slow growing, no mowing. :disgust1:

Been busy caring for my girl, after her kidney donation. Went pretty smooth, except for Thurs night around midnight. We took a flying trip to the ER; she had some serious swelling suddenly set in. As near as we can figure: one of the dogs jumped up on her, moving around some loose blood, it collected at the swelling location. :twitch:

Morning. A frigid day off here :) Went out for a nice hard ride on Saturday at our local trails. There was a nice frozen base with about 3-4" of snow on top. Snow really does provide a LOT of resistance and it was a tough workout and cold (I think it was 24 when we were riding) but definitely worth it.

Oh.....now you claim it was a joke. I get it. :twitch:
Since you don't like Texas A&M Extension, how about Clemson:

An established winter lawn requires the same maintenance as a permanent lawn. Mow when the grass is tall enough to cut, about 1 to 2 inches. Mow to 1 to 1½ inches thereafter whenever the grass reaches 2 to 2½ inches. Make sure the mower blade is sharp to prevent ripping of the ryegrass. If ryegrass is properly fertilized, weekly mowing may be necessary.

Plus, you are a couple months late on planting (though your drought is a good excuse):

Overseeding should be done when the days are warm enough for the seed to grow and the nights are cool enough to reduce the incidence of disease. Thirty days before the first frost, when daytime highs are near 70 °F and nighttime lows are usually above 50 °F, is generally a good time to overseed. This usually corresponds to mid-September in the Upstate and late September in the Midlands and Coastal regions.

Nice relaxing weekend, didn't do much of anything. Saturday was the mother-in-law's BD, so we joined them for dinner. Yesterday was football followed by more couch time.

And I didn't even think about seeding or mowing my lawn. :disgust1:
